Population, Retail Sales Figures For County Released by Chamber Orange county's 63.7 per cent Listed for Orange county in population increase over 1940 is corporated cities are latest 1950 Holiday Citrus Market Revealed Population, Retail Sales Figures For County Released by Chamber Orange county's 63.7 per cent population increase over 1940 is supported by an even greater percentage rise in retail sales. Further evidence of this county's solid foundation is reflected in increased assessed value of taxable property. Edward R. Valentine, of the California State Chamber of Commerce's Southern California District today announced this county's statistics as part of a new State Chamber study of population, trade and taxable wealth in all California counties. "Orange county's population increased from 130,000 in 1940 to 214,061 this year, according to latest preliminary counts of the Census Bureau." Valentine reported. Between 1939 and 1948, annual dollar volume of retail sales in this county soared from $50,112,000 to $206,387,000. This was an increase of 311.9 per cent. "Assessed valuation of Orange county's taxable property was $193,424,000 in 1941. At the end of the 1949-50 year, this county's valuation was $493,154,000, according to the State Board of Equalization. This means a per capita of $2,052 of taxable wealth for each resident of the county." "Total California population increased 59.1 per cent in the last decade—from 6,907,387 in 1940 to 10,490,000 in 1950, according to the latest Census Bureau preliminary counts. Statewide, retail sales increased 244.4 per cent; from $3,187,109,000 in 1939 to $10,979,997,000 in 1948." Listed for Orange county incorporated cities are latest 1950 census population estimates and increase over 1940; retail sales in 1948 and percentage increase over 1939 equalized assessment valuation for 1949-50, and per capita of such assessed valuation: Anaheim — Population, 14,552, increase 31.6 per cent; retail sales, 1948, $15,595,000; increase 254 per cent; assessed valuation, $18,891,000; per capita, $1,301. Holiday Citrus Market Revealed 'Satisfactory' Pre-holiday demand for California-Arizona navel oranges was at a fairly satisfactory level both volume and price-wise but weaker trend appeared to be developing the latter part of the week ending December 23. Growers and shippers in the two western citrus producing states were generally pleased with the Christmas holiday navel orange market which, while lighter in total sales, was considerable ahead in dollar returns over the pre-holiday market last year. Prorate for the week ending Dec. 30 was set at 600 cars to Central California navels; 65 cars Arizona navels; 150 cars of southern navels to early maturity applicants; with open movement continuing on northern California navel oranges. Shipments next week will be heavier than those of this week as such fruit will reach eastern markets after the first of the year when the trade will resume more normal purchases. Sales of Florida oranges eastern auctions held steady around $4.15 per box delivered this week. Orange shipments from the southern state continue heavy this week's movement estimate at 3375 cars. Under their marketing order Florida shippers have declared their customary shipping holiday on all citrus varieties and have prohibited any movement of fresh channels from Dec. 24 Jan. 1 inclusive. The California lemon market continues disappointing. Demand is steady on 360s and larger first grade fruit but easier on the balance. Sales during the week ending Dec. 23 were down about 15 cars from the previous week and the f. o. b. average decline 20c a box due particularly... Vatican Workers Seal Holy Door VATICAN CITY (F)—The work of sealing up the holy door of St. Peter's basilica, symbolically closed Christmas Eve by Pope Pius to end the 1950 Holy Year jubilee, was completed today by Vatican workers known as the San Pietrini. Unless as special jubilee is called, as was done in 1933 in honor of the 1900th anniversary of the death of Christ, the door will not be opened again until Christmas Eve, 1974, for the 1975 Holy Year jubilee. Pope Pius today received some 7000 pilgrims who had come or the closing of the Holy Year in a last general audience in the Vatican palace. The pilgrims were from Italy, Belgium, Germany, Great Britain, Argentina, Brazil, the United State and Austria. George Theodorakis Arrives in Japan George Theodorakis, quartermaster, third class, USN, of 1220 E. Chestnut st., Anaheim, recently arrived at the Fleet Activities, U. S. Naval Base, Yokosuka, Japan, for duty. While he is serving in Occupied Japan, he will have access to the many scenic and historic spots located there. Registration Cards For Unowned Cars Must be Destroyed Motorists should destroy 1951 potential registration cards received for vehicles which they no longer own, Motor Vehicle Director A. H. Henderson said today. Henderson explained that because of late ownership transfers, a potential registratation card sometimes is received by the former owner as well as the new owner of the vehicle. Failure of the former owner to notify the Department of Motor Vehicles of the transfer or sale within 10 days as provided by law also may result in a mis-directed potential registration card. Transfer applications received in Motor Vehicle Department offices subsequent to Dec. 15 will not result in issuance of a potential registration card. In such cases, the new owner should apply during the Jan. 2 through Feb. 5 renewal period using the 1950 registration card. Penalties become effective at midnight on the closing date of the renewal period. Henderson said that minor changes involving addresses and correction of name spellings could be effected at the time of renewal. He emphasized that the applicant should read his potential registration card carefully before paying fees to insure that his vehicle is correctly described. Quick Action Always Use G SDAY, DECEMBER 27, 1950 ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA DOUBLE TROUBLE UNIVERSITY, Miss., (P)—Football fans of the University of Mississippi are getting used to twin football players. Twice this season, Ole Miss has faced twins on the opposition team—and the Rebs also have a set of their own. For Mississippi, it’s David and James Salley, who hall from Kingsport, Tenn., and play left and right halfback. The Salleys were matched with Kentucky’s Jones twins, Harry and Larry, on Sept. 30, and also faced Texas Christians’ Moorman twins. LEGAL NOTICES (Pub.
