Anaheim Gazette WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 27, 1950 ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA Frigid Midwest Has Reading of 150 Inside Shop KANSAS CITY (AP) — When employees of a downtown art and stationary store returned yesterday after a two-day Christmas shutdown, they found: Hundreds of candles melted. Table legs separated from table tops. Tropical plants, valued at $700, wilted. Leather wastebaskets warped and leather tablestops curled. Glue and varnish so soft that lamps were fused to table tops. During the two days, temperatures inside the store—Hall Brothers—had climbed to 150 degrees. Someone had inadvertently switched off the master thermostat at closing time, taking control off the steam heat. No complete estimate of damage was available. There was one consolation. Had the temperature gone up 15 more degrees, the automatic sprinkler system would have kicked on, flooding the store. The Brooks range of Alaska contains thick limestone strata made up of the skeletons of ancient primitive animals called crinoids. Anaheim Gazette by JOHN S. Thomas Mason, an Anaheim high school graduate who was wounded in Korea, was home for the holidays. City Judge Leonard Bonnat passed another of life's milestones the other day. Like Anaheim's honorary mayor, Jack Benny, he's 38. Hugh Bridgeford, the San Diego meat packer, now resides on a Fullerton hill and directs his business enterprise from his Anaheim plant. Gene Richards will be a gyrene after the first of the year. That's a good break for the guy who's gotten more than his just share of tough ones. LEGAL NOTE—Judge Robert Gardner will have to decide whether one of Anaheim's "water Bessle Juszkievics is an authority on antiques... Don Garrett might tell you that there are several methods to trim and top trees... Earl Spires the Anaheimer who knows, will tell you it's hard work to wreck these orange groves to make way for subdivisions... REMEMBER — Tools cannot think for fools! Mrs. Anna Lavergne, Church Point, Louisiana, says she has a word of advice for those folks who seem always blue, mad at the world, or think cloudy skies are always hanging over their heads. Mrs. Lavergne says most folks when they act that way must not be feeling well... cause a poor disposition is a sure sign of trouble, Mrs. Lavergne says, just taking herself as an example... now that she is taking HADACOL there isn't a person in the world who can make her mad. Mrs. Lavergne found that by taking HADACOL her system was no longer deficient in Vitamins B1, B2, Niacin and iron. Here is Mrs. Lavergne's own statement: "You don't know how wonderful it feels to be in such good condition—after two years of feeling run-down. I had a very poor appetite—in fact, food didn't agree with me at all. I had a hard time sleeping nights... sometimes I would stay awake until 1 or 2 in the morning and then the next day I would feel tired and groggy all day long. You have no idea how terrible I felt. Now all this is gone... yes now that I have been taking HADACOL, I feel wonderful. I get lots of good, sound ford, the San Diego meat packer, now resides on a Fullerton hill and directs his business enterprise from his Anaheim plant... Gene Richards will be a gyrene after the first of the year. That's a good break for the guy who's gotten more than his just share of tough ones... LEGAL NOTE—Judge Robert Gardner will have to decide whether one of Anaheim's "water alleys" belongs to the city or to the adjoining property. City Attorney Preston Turner traced the property titles all the way back to the original land grant issued to Jose Antonio Yorba. ANAHEIMITEMS — Richard Kepner is learning to be a soldier... T/Sgt. George McGlumphy reports that Walt Karin, Patrick Patin and Bill Sexton have joined the airforce. Jack Hersh and John Cleveland, on the other hand, have enlisted in the navy according to recruiter, Chief Fred Oprey... Dorothy Jiles, the Anaheim high school sophomore is one of the county's leading apiarists... Bill Cook, the genial Anaheim high school bandmaster and tennis devotee, has organized an 18-piece pep band to play for the Colonists' basketball games. Jo Ann Burdick and Lois Fanning are to lend glamour to the outfit... It may be worth repeating: Sam Keith's Colonists are the team to beat for the Sunset League cage honors. Just mark t-old Gazetteer's words... PROGRESS—Mergers of citrus marketing associations have highlighted the citrus industry. If such mergers produce economy and give the producer greater return for his product, they're in the right direction. NEWSETTES—Paul Pugh who was one of the sabrejet pilots to bag an MIG Russian-built jet job over Korea is the same chap who played his football for the late Art Nunn at Fullerton junior college... Carl (Pony) Swenson, the Fullerton newspaperman, has added another boy to his family. John Trowbridge says Pony will have mad scramble if he wants to keep his place at the table... Joe Mene has been taken for "The Thing" by the kids in his neighborhood... Like a lot of of feeling run-down. I had a very poor appetite—in fact, food didn't agree with me at all. I had a hard time sleeping nights sometimes. I would stay awake until 1 or 2 in the morning and then the next day I would feel tired and groggy all day long. You have no idea how terrible I felt. Now all this is gone yes now that I have been taking HADACOL, I feel wonderful. I get lots of good, sound sleep, have a fine appetite and just lots of energy. I can eat any kind of food now and it doesn't bother me a bit. I just can't begin to thank HADACOL." Don't Put Off Taking HADACOL do as thousands others do whose systems lacked Vitamins B1, B2, Niacin and Iron are doing. The HADACOL formula is very effective for stomach disorders, insomnia due to upset stomach, nagging aches and pains, and a general run-down condition if they are due to such deficiencies. Make up your mind to give HADACOL a chance to help you as it has helped others whose systems lacked Vitamins B1, B2, Niacin and Iron. Remember, there are no substitutes for HADACOL. Always insist on the genuine HADACOL. No risk involved. Buy a bottle of HADACOL, either the trial size, $1.25 or the large family or hospital size, $3.50, and if HADACOL does not help you, your money will be refunded. If your druggist does not have HADACOL, order it direct from the LeBlanc Corporation, Lafayette, Louisiana. Copyright 1950 The LeBlanc Coporation. (Adv.) Proposed Theft of Airplane for Ride to North Ends in CULVER CITY—A good old fashioned paddling ended an attempted airplane runaway by three youngsters. The two boys and a girl, Lloyd Britton, 12, his sister, Louella, 13, and their cousin, Leonard Bryson, 14, also will have a juvenile court hearing Saturday. All live in Los Angeles. Bryson's sister, Mrs. R. W. Yanz, and the mother of the other two, Mrs. Mildred Britton, administered the spanking at the police station here yesterday. The juvenile junket began, police learned, on Christmas Eve when the trio left their homes with $13 and a loaf of bread. They spent the night in a vacant house. They traveled afoot on Christmas Day and reached Culver City airport that night. Early yesterday morning an airport guard, A. A. Burlingame, heard a plane engine. He saw a ship taxing and flashed a light. Daily Fresh FRUITS & VEGETABLES Advertise Our Finest Quality These Items Are Our Best Values Food Club TUNA CHUNKS & FLAKES Free! The pilot tried to gun the engine to take off but the engine died. The youngsters were hustled to the police station. Their explanation was simple: Bryson had learned a lot about airplanes from his father, a civilian pilot, and the trio had decided to fly to Eureka, Calif., to visit him. Eureka is about 600 miles north of here.
