3 Anaheim Gazette TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 21, 1950 ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA Margaret Hughs, Halden Kennedy Exchange Vows Returned this week from Laguna honeymoon are Mr. and Mrs. Halden Kennedy who were married in quiet services in the church parlors of Orange Methodist church. Rev. Rolland Tinca performed the ceremony before a small group of relatives. Bride, the former Margaret Hughes wore a smart, two-layer dress in deep blue with a matching velvet hat trimmed in white pearls; For her daughter's wedding Mr. Stillwell wore a grey suit with matching accessories and a blouse in a soft shade of rose. Mrs. H. J. Tikker of Anaheim's soloist, sang "Tell Me Do You Love Me," and "Oh Perfect Love" accompanied by Mrs. Vesta Frieder of Buena Park. Dr. Tikker said "Because." Reception followed the ceremony. Mrs. Buel Kennedy cut and served the beautifully decorated wedding cake and Mrs. Robert Kennedy presided at the pungent bowl. The new Mrs. Kennedy is nurse for Dr. A. J. Hies of Orange. Her husband is employed by the Sparklets Water co. They plan to move into the new home at 715 S. Citron st., during the first of next year. The bride is daughter of Mr. Bessie Stillwell of Orange. Mrs. Kennedy is the son of Mr. or Mrs. George Kennedy of Kansas. Barbara Barfoot Reveals Plans to Marry Palos Verdes Hills Student Miss Barbara Barfoot, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. V. J. Barfoot of 211 E. Alberta, announced her Exceptional Talent PASSES CHOCOLATES—Miss Barbara Barfoot revealed betrothal news in traditional fashion at Kappa Lamba Sigma sorority meeting. Barbara Barfoot Reveals Plans to Marry Palos Verdes Hills Student Miss Barbara Barfoot, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. V. J. Barfoot of 211 E. Alberta, announced her engagement to James Kenneth Sampson, son of A. K. Sampson of Rolling Hills, Monday evening by passing the chocolates at a meeting of her sorority, Kappa Lamba Sigma. Miss Barfoot and Mr. Sampson have been going together since the first of their high school days at AUHS. She was active in student affairs in high school and was valedictorian at her graduation ceremonies in '49. Miss Barfoot is a sophomore at Fullerton junior college and will graduate in June. She is vice-president of the Associated Women Students and is a member of honor fraternity, Alpha Gamma Sigma; her major is in education. Mr. Sampson is in his junior year at Palo Verdes college where he is majoring in business administration. Wedding date is tentatively set for early spring. Lutheran Holiday Service Announced "A God Pleasing Thanksgiving" is the sermon Paston Edwin H. Pflug has chosen for special Thanksgiving services tomorrow at the Zion Lutheran church. The service begins at 10 a.m. Rev. Pflug's sermon is based on the 106 Psalm. The choir, directed by Mrs. Walter Kemplin, will sing the hymn, "We Gather Together to Ask the Lord's Blessing." The congregation will join in the world-wide Bible reading program sponsored by the American Bible Society. The program is conducted annually from Thanksgiving through Christmas. Exceptional Talent In Merrie Martha Amateur Show Third Annual Amateur Show sponsored by the Merrie Martha circle of the White Temple Methodist church was brought to a successful end late last Friday evening. Wesley Hall was transformed into a beautiful setting for the young talent displayed during the evening with hanging baskets of ivy, fuschias and banks of colorful colius from Rev. C. I. Andrews collection. Soloists were Sherryl Ann David, Bonnie Peterson, Ann Thomason, and Marilyn Daigle with her well known humorous interpretation of "horsy" numbers. Jimmy Endicott, Margie Ann Hilgenfeld, Charles Robert Cunningham, Linda Cheatum and Michael Anderson delivered readings. Soloists at the piano were Ruthie Mungerson, Judith Ann Lemke, Charles Cunningham and Randel Schwacofer. Accordion solo was rendered by Richard Parrish. As a climax to the program Mrs. Paul Sanford sang two solos with background by a hidden "whisler." Surprise came when Mrs. Melvin Hilgenfeld, using a talent completely unknown to casual observers, was found. Paul Rumfelt mystified his audience with escape tricks ending the program. Mrs. C. I. Andrews was the mistress of ceremonies. Mrs. Albert Cranston, chairman of the circle, announced that tea would be served.
