SWING OUT—That's what Elk bandsmen are doing as they launch the campaign for their Hallow-e'en Fair Queen candidate, blond Elaine Newton. Elaine has strutted for the band along many parade route miles. The thundering herd gives aggressive notice of intent to see their 19-year-old majorette crowned queen of the Anaheim Halloween celebration.

WASHINGTON — Senator Ives (R-NY) declared today the price situation is getting out of hand and he called on President Truman to set up control machinery speedily.
"I hate to see price control come," Ives said, "but I think it must if there has been no marked improvement in the present picture by the first of the year. And no appreciable improvement appears likely."

40 Door Prizes In Store for St. Michael Fete
Forty door prizes will be given away at St. Michael's Third Annual Fall festival to be held at the Anaheim high school on Saturday, October 7, from 12:30 to 10:30 p.m., the church announced today.
Heading the list is a "Tappan." gas range to be awarded at 9:30 p.m. and four $25.00 merchandise orders at Loly's Jewelry Store, two of which will be given away at 8:30 p.m. and two at 7:30 p.m.
According to Harry Horn and Robert Patrick, heads of the prize committee, nearly 40 Anaheim merchants have donated secondary prizes also to be given away at the above hours. Some of these are a pressure cooker, a ladies hand bag, 24 quarts of motor oil, four rain coats, a table lamp, a silver bud vase, a cosmetic case, a box of individually printed stationery.
The prizes will be on display beginning Saturday, September 30, in a window at the SQR store.
At 4 p.m. there will be a special children's door prize drawing including such items as two pairs of roller skates, flashlights, a savings bank with $5.00 in it, change purses and billfolds.
At 3 p.m. the children's benefit selling contest prizes will be awarded which include two pairs of skates, a football and a girl's overnight case.
Present leaders in this contest are: sixth grade through high school, Louise Phelps and Peter Rossberg; second through fifth grades, Danny Herring and Susan Saville.
The contest closes at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 7, by which time all benefit stubs must be given to Earle Jackson, treasurer of the Festival, at the benefit desk.
All prizes will be given away in the Girls' Gymnasium by Joe Thompson and John Shoemaker, masters of ceremonies.
Winners or a member of their family must be present to claim prizes.
Benefits, which entitle the possessor to scrip to play the games of skill and to enjoy other concessions, and which also give him an opportunity to participate in the door prizes, may be obtained from any member of St. Michael's church.

communists.
The informants gave this detailed outline of the American position:
1. Korea must be a free, independent and united country. This obviously means wiping out the old division of the country along the 38th parallel.
2. Methods for Korea's unification can be best devised by having a strong United Nations commission in the area. In the present circumstances it would be unwise to develop detailed blueprints here. The commission should have authority to deal with the problems on the scene in consultation with MacArthur's command and the people of Korea.
3. The Korean people to be consulted should be chosen in free elections by secret ballot on the basis of universal suffrage. It would be up to the commission to determine what elections were needed. There would have to be a general election in North Korea but since the South Korean elections of last May are recognized as valid, by-elections might be the only thing needed there to fill war-caused gaps in the assembly's ranks.
4. Strong emphasis should be placed on the whole problem of reconstruction. The United States want Korea designated as a "pilot project" in which all the resources of the U.N. would be brought to bear on the problem.
5. No single nation should be dominant in the settlement of the Korean problem.
6. Korea must be set up in such a way as to pose no threat to her neighbors. The nation should be admitted to the U.N. and assume the charter's obligations.

Korean War
(Continued From Page 1)
Korea, was completely in American hands, and Marines and Infantrymen wandered, relaxed through the wrecked streets where only a few hours earlier they had fought savage battles, AP Correspondent Don Whitehead reported.
Col. Lewis (Chesty) Puller, commanding the First Marine Regiment, told Whitehead the hour of final victory was 6 p.m., Wednesday, when the last reds pulled back north and east, giving the Americans complete mastery of every part of the city.
This was announced amid racing new Allied advances throughout South Korea where the reds are reduced to small combat pockets or are retreating and fading from view.
Taejon, Namwon and Hadong were recaptured.
Ninety-one American prisoners-of-war were rescued in the latter two southern towns. 10 were litter cases at Hadong. All had been abandoned by fleeing communists.
Lt. Gen. Walton H. Walker, U.S. Eighth Army commander, told war correspondents at his Korean headquarers the reds were in complete rout, and added that their army no long exists as an organized force.

main awhile. It is reasonable to assume that housing there may be more acute, and certainly the labor unions, vigorous objectors to rent decontrol, are strongest in the cities.
San Francisco, Oakland and other areas are asking 15-25 per cent increases under the law. Granting of such increases, says Cox, usually has little to do with hastening or delaying decontrol.
The most important concern of landlords seems, he said, "to get rid of federal controls over their property."

The first cranberries season reached distant northeast from Massachusetts this week.
The Agriculture Department turned the spotlight on shens as the most-plentiful fruit market promotion this week. These stewing chickens, weighed from 3 to 6 pounds, are able at this time of year when farmers send them to market as the output declines.
The culled birds usually plump and meaty because they have been turning into flesh rather than eggs.

$10,000 now in the hands of the court.
The tieup of property included the eight named in the criminal action, together with Michael Orr, 21, husband of Rita; Cecelia Hay, 20, and William Matthew Albert, 21, who police said was engaged to marry Marie Orr.
In the oral confessions, later repudiated and never signed, police said some of the girls admitted taking rolls of quarters from the phone company counting room by stuffing the money in their brassieres.
The girls admitted, according to police, that some of the estimated $100,000 went for automobiles, payments on houses and for bonds.
Five of the women appeared at the telephone company office yesterday, accompanied by their attorney, and asked for their jobs back.
District manager J. M. Phillips told them they had been fired.
Motorless Car Owners Beware
If you're the owner of a car without a motor—watch out!
You may be next in line for the thief that swiped a Ford V-8 motor from the wasnrack of Pete Lehr's service station, 200 North Lemon street, sometime Tuesday night.
Roy Jennings, 115 North Emily street, had brought the motor to be steam cleaned before installing it in an automobile. After it had been spruced up, it was left on the wash rack for Jennings. But someone used the station chain falls to load it during the night, according to the police report.
The value was set at about $50.
