(Continued From Page 1)
General Douglas MacArthur appeared commander in the Korean sector west of Seoul, directly across the kan from the capital, the United Nations commander went aboard the Battle-Missouri port ship and then back to Tokyo. He had been at the second front since it opened on the Yellow Sea shores last Friday.
Lt. Gen. Lemuel C. Sheperd, commander of an Pacific fleet Marine forces, predicted it would be at least a week before Seoul's safe for an Allied victory parade.
They could have made it tough for us," said Shepherd. "But we're on the north bank of the river and we're going to stay there."
Shepherd returned to Tokyo with MacArthur in the General's new Constellation star plane. Scap on his way back to Honolulu.
Shepherd said house-to-house fighting already had begun in Yongdungpo, Seoul's southwest industrial suburb. One hundred marine casualties, mostly wounded, were reported in sharp fighting or Yongdungpo, this morning, the marine general noted.
Shepherd, who incidentally was awarded the Silver Star by MacArthur during the flight, said red forces holding South Mountain could sweep Seoul with artillery and mortar fire.
That mountain around which Seoul is built, is said by Army officers to be manned by 3000 reds.
They've not too much time to conclude, "Anyway almost the fault will be going to dance in their positions."
AP correspondent Russ reported the Marines' Seoul's northwest outskirts.
Brines also relayed Corps intelligence reports mysterious armored force out of the red China border of Antung in Manchuria.
