LaBarthe, Long Beach area district manager, announced today that 82,307 new members representing a seven per cent growth during the quarter had brought total membership in the Southland to 796,357. Meanwhile, LaBarthe said, the 89 Blue Cross plans across the United States and Canada had boosted their total enrollment to more than 38,500,000 with a second quarter growth of 1,141,660 members. This meant, LaBarthe said, that 24 per cent of the population of United States were now members of Blue Cross. The Blue Cross method of budgeting against the cost of hospital and medical care is by its sixth year.
