Camp Petition
(Continued from Page 1)
afternoon revealed considerable opposition to the proposed expansion.
Residents directly adjacent to the camp on Vermont ave., reported cases of trespassing, noise, and, as one termed it, "indiscretions." Farther away from the camp, residents admitted not having seen any oturight transgressions, but voiced definite objection to "constant presence" of the workers passing to and from town. Parents interviewed, basing their statements on reported transgressions, objected to the presence of the workers on the grounds that they constitute a menace to children.
George Graham, manager of Citrus Growers, Inc., indicated last night that the organization had not changed its plans regarding the land use application.
"The application still stands," he said. "We are asking permission to erect storage warehouse facilities on the campsite and at the same time we are looking forward to any possible emergency which might require the addition of more workers."
Graham added that there was no immediate prospect of additional workers but that the corporation wanted to be ready to house them in the event a situation demanded it.
He said the camp now has facilities to handle some 450 men and

time collecting some long overdue taxes.
The rugged Cretan village of Anoghia, homestead of the powerful Kephaloyannis clan, is so tough the townsfolk even defy the tax collectors. The hunt for the missing lovers so overran Anoghia with police and soldiers that the government found it opportunity to collect taxes for the first time since the Turks were driven out.
Some 60 townsfolk were arrested, ostensibly for carrying guns and being too ardent Kephaloyannis partisans. The real reason, said one citizen, was to get them into Herakleion and rustle them for taxes.
Basil Stravrakacis, who runs the coffee house in Anoghia, was one of those taken in custody.
After five days; he returned.
"Yep," he said wryly, "I paid them."
Official announcements that Anoghia had been disarmed brought scornful laughter from the villagers, whose reputation as "killers" causes shudders throughout the neighboring countryside.
"How many weapons old, the police say they found?" asked one Anoghian.
"Twelve or 13," replied a newsman.
"Humph," snorted the villager. "I reckon I could find a thousand,
Korean War
(Continued from Page 1)
But the U.S. 23th Infantry division reacted swiftly, lashed back and broke the momentum of the red assault.
Behind strong air and artillery support, American tanks and troops rolled into Haman and regained ridges west of the city, 35 miles west of the vital allied supply port of Pusan on the southeast Korean coast.
An American officer at the front said the communists were making their big effort—"and I think it is their last one."
However, an intelligence officer at General MacArthur's headquarters and a second major red offensive against another section of the beachhead was still possible. He added that the largest mass of enemy infantry still is presumed to be in the Waegwan area, northwest of Taegu.
The powerful red onslaught had set the front afame on a 55-mile stretch from a point on the Naktong river west of Teague southward to the sea.
The newest strike on the roaring front was a red thrust against the extreme southwest flank of the 25th Division, defended by the Fifth Regimental combat team.
A mortar barrage preceded the attack and a little later a North Korean plane, in one of the rare appearances of the red air force, dropped two bombs in the sector. Neither did any damage.
At least one tank was reported in the attacking force.
Youthful American soldiers pulled back from Yogsan on the U.S. Second Division front before a strong tank-led drive which pushed across the Naktong river.

Youthful American soldiers pulled back from Yongsan on the U.S. Second Division front before a strong tank-led drive which pushed across the Naktong river.
These men, on the left flank of the Second Division, had retreated eight and one-half miles in all.
AP correspondent Bem Price, who was with one of the last groups to pull out of Yongsan into the hills to the east, said the men who gave the ground came out tired but not broken. He said they were still in good spirits.
The Americans immediately dug in the hills east of Yongsan against the red thrust aimed at cutting the main highway between the supply point of Pusan and the communications center of Taegu.
Bruce Injured in Power Saw Mishap
Bob Bages, 22, 307 N. Janss st., lost three fingers in an industrial accident just Wednesday at 8:30 when he was operating a portable power saw at his job at a Fullerton housing project.
He was rushed to Fullerton General hospital by fellow workers and is not expected to be released until September 6. A student at Fullerton Junior college, he had already registered for the fall term as an engineering major.
The Seaforth Highlanders were formed in 1778 by Kenneth Kerr of Seaforth.
