Main St., Santa Ana Main Office Phone—KI. 3-6660 or KI. 3-6803 LOOKING IT OVER—Plans of the proposed Magnolia Ave. Trunk Sewer project are scanned by Frank Rospaw (left), Placentia, and Walter Wentz of Garden Grove, while Burton Ellis (center), Joint Outfall Sewer system engineer, points out a detail of the line. Rospaw and Wentz are representing their communities on the Joint Citizens committee which is working to bring about passage of some $3,000,000 in bonds Sept. 18 in seven Orange county communities. Bond money will be used to install the new line which engineers say will ably relieve the overcrowded line now serving the communities. Speakers before Anaheim civic d service groups have recently inted out that all engineering clergyman as the Reverend Pflug to work for the betterment of the community. ODDENDITIES — Chuck King who trucks a lot of juice fruit in and out of ANAHEIM is a softballer in his spare time. The other night, he got a bang out of the Sewer Vote (Continued from Page 1) by JOHN S. NEUBAUER ANAHEIMITEMS—Ernie Moeller did it again! The sparkplug of the ANAHEIM Chamber of Commerce sold the Rinshed-Mason Company on locating in ANAHEIM. The manufacturers of paint products, too, are to be congratulated on having made a wise decision. In a three-column front-page article, a Santa Ana newspaper, states: Loss of Paint Plant Blow to Industry Development. It bemoaned the fact that the paint company had chosen the former Caltone plant rather than locating in Santa Ana. Paul Keller, engineer for the Detroit concern, and Edward Hawkins, plant manager, made a wise decision on choosing ANAHEIM for their plant. In ANAMEIM they’ll receive wholehearted cooperation... One of the heads of one of the firms which left Fullerton to establish in ANAHEIM said: "We’d have been foolish if we hadn’t moved. ANAHEIM gives us 100 per cent cooperation—the kind of cooperation you can’t get anywhere else." Then he went on to say that the genial ANAHEIM Chamber of Commerce manager was a real emissary of industrial good will... Stan Riley who developed his broad shoulders playing football for ANAHEIM Hi is having his troubles. He’s the kingpin behind the Southwestern Regional Softball tournament and has the promoters crying on his shoulders. Neither Brea’s George Bagsley nor Bunena Park’s Marion (Shorty) Hill likes the break they got in the drawings. PROFILES — A comparatively new ANAHEIMER, the Rev. Edwin H. Pflog, has already won the confidence and respect of all with whom he has come in contact. ANAHEIM is fortunate, indeed, to have such an outstanding clergyman as the Reverend Pflug to work for the betterment of the community. ODDENDITIES — Chuck King who trucks a lot of juice fruit in and out of ANAHEIM is a softballer in his spare time. The other night, he got a bang out of the fact that a San Diego manager requested that Rodger (Doe) Miller, the Buena Park electrician, wear a cap when nothing was said when Shorty Hill took the field bareheaded. Doc may have some store teeth, but he has a head of hair... Noel Sweeney wishes cars came equipt with radar. He’s going to drive through the fog to the Long Beach State college... Harry James would really pack ANAHEIM's Harmony Park hall September 10 when he plays for the LULAC dance if he brought his wife—Betty Grable... Now that schoolbells are about to tinkle again, Don Derr and his recreation department co-workers are to be congratulated once more for having done an outstanding job. Barbara Hiltscher and Barbara Lawrence did an outstanding job with the crafts department... Roy Merk’s junior baseball team was tops... Major Ralph Comstock did an outstanding chore instructing youngsters in the use and respect of firearms... REMINDER — Casualties will be heavy over the week-end. Take it easy. The life you save may be yours. Nothing is so precious as the life of an ANAHEIMER, so take it easy... COMMENTARY — These are troubled times, friend; and, in times like these, people need a lift. Though life is good here in ANAHEIM, ANAHEIMERS need something that will make them forget the troubles of this war-weary world. They need the lift that comes from listening to the thrilling music of a band. In the old days, ANAHEIM was known for its gemudlichkeit. There were band concerts under those large spreading pepper trees. ANAHEIMERS turned out to hear the concerts under the stars. The ANAHEIM Elks band is a good organization. It would be avail- DANCE THEIR WAY TO LOVE Fred Astaire and Vera-Ellen are the dancing stars of M-G-M's happy new Technicolor musical, "Three Little Words," based on the lives and music of songwriters Bert Kalmar and Harry Ruby. Red Skelton and Arlene Dahl form another romantic twosome in the big hit coming to the Orange Drive-In Theatre Sunday. OPENING CEREMONY—Gov. Earl Warren, at mike, and Will C. Wright, president of the state fair board, address the crowd which gathered for the 1950 California State Fair in Sacramento. The address followed official opening ceremonies at the gate. FAIR SIZED CAKE SACRAMENTO (P)—A 13-foot high California birthday cake will be lighted and set spinning to music today by Governor Warren. It is California's one hundredth birthday cake—built of wood and cardboard at the State Fair in celebration of a century by the Golden State. Hundreds of thousands of Californians and their guests will pass by the giant cake before the fair ends at midnight on September 10, able for weekly concerts. Four public spirited ANAHEIMERS — Herb Salveson, Bill Cook, Oscar Solter and Art Roquet—are now the sparkplugs of the Elks Band. They know what it means to have good music. They know the thrill one gets from listening to band music. Long Beach has a municipal band. It enjoys world-wide fame. Why can't ANAHEIM have an ANAHEIM band for ANAHEIMERS to enjoy? REMEMBER—If you've never made a mistake, you've never done anything. CHICAGO (P)—A bus rammed a lamp post on South Park ave. The post smashed through the living room window of a home and struck Mrs. Ina Brown. She was injured slightly. Other committee chairmen are: Robin Cone, art and decorations; Barbara Ramey, reception; Barbara Still, refreshments; Dorothy Kuchel, publicity; Mrs. Elizabeth Brunskill is the faculty adviser.
