Local Ikes Get 20 Albacore
Sixteen Ikes aboard the Tuesday charter boat came home with a total of 16 albacore for their efforts. There would have been more, according to reports, had Pop Dinkler not attached himself to a marlin for nearly two hours. Pop fought the brute manfully but had to eventually cut the line to give the fish well-earned freedom.
Consolation was soon forthcoming, however, as Pop latched on to a 22 pound albacore a little later. This one he got home to the icebox.
Dave Newhouse landed a 24 pound albacore to eclipse the day's jackpot. Sam Christensen caught four to take high point honors.
As evidenced yesterday, albacore fishing is still good in coastal waters. Dick Martin says that he and L. N. "Pete" Wisser still have some openings available on the regular Tuesday Ike Charter boat.
