BY THE FOOTLIGHTER SAN FRANCISCO, July 4th—M.Y.F. Footlighters from Anaheim's White Temple Methodist church, currently making our tour of the Pacific coast presenting the three-act religious drama, "The Brother," are already winning widespread acclaim for our performances. Sunday evening we played the Oxnard Methodist church, before a large crowd that nearly filled the sanctuary. Mr. and Mrs. Paul H. Demaree, who are taking their car and accompanying the tour along with Rev. and Mrs. Frank E. Butterworth, were unable to leave Anaheim with the players on Sunday afternoon as they were taking the two sons of a Japanese missionary into their home for a year's schooling in the States, and the boys arrived by air from Tokyo on Sunday evening. But Mr. and Mrs. Al Dutto called for the Demaree. Impromptu Party Turns Into Surprise Affair Miss Joan Shields, clerk in a South Main st., Santa Ana drug store, thought it would be nice to throw a party at her home while her parents were away on a visit. But never again, no never. According to her report to Santa Ana police, the party developed into a larger affair than she had planned. Much, much larger. There were kids there she actually never laid eyes on before. By 10 o'clock the party was so completely out of hand that the hostess grew firm and announced that she would summon the police. That broke it up. Some of the guests went over the back fence. But before all had gone, Joan discovered that her mother's Queen Anne table lighter, which she had forethoughtedly hid in the medicine cabinet, was nevertheless Oxnard Methodist church, before a large crowd that nearly filled the sanctuary. Mr. and Mrs. Paul H. Demaree, who are taking their car and accompanying the tour along with Rev. and Mrs. Frank E. Butterworth, were unable to leave Anaheim with the players on Sunday afternoon as they were taking the two sons of a Japanese missionary into their home for a year’s schooling in the States, and the boys arrived by air from Tokyo on Sunday evening. But Mr. and Mrs. Al Dutze called for the Demaree’s at 5:30 a.m. and overlooked the tour party at breakfast time at Oxnard. The Monday evening performance was given at the Regional Youth Training Conference of the Methodist Youth Fellowship, being conducted at Camp Monte Toyon in the Santa Cruz redwoods. Bill Bonney and Don Brummet, Anaheim boys attending the conference in their capacities as District and Sub-district presidents, respectively, greeted their fellow townsmen enthusiastically as they reached Monte Toyon in the late afternoon. The evening performance was given in the outdoor bowl, completely circled by sequoia sempervirens, the coastal variety of redwoods. The play was so reverently and impressively received by the audience that invitations were immediately forthcoming from the presidents of the San Diego and Los Angeles sub-districts, for the Anaheim players to present their production before union services of all the combined Methodist Youth groups of those two cities. These performances will be arranged for later in the month. A hike through the woods threatened disaster for the tour party, as they got bogged down in poison oak, which made it necessary for some of the performers to miss their dinner while taking showers and applying strong soap! No casualties seem to have developed, however, by the next day! Arrival in San Francisco did not occur until midnight, but Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Sumner of 350 Edgehill Way were equal to the late hours, and had hot cocoa and cookies ready for the invaders from Anaheim. The tour party will leave San Francisco today for a leisurely drive up the redwood highway to Eureka, and on to Roseburg, Oregon, for a performance on Wednesday evening at the First Methodist church. Plymouth Model Airplane Meet Set for Weekend Over 250 model plane enthusiasts from throughout Southern California will descentd on Los Angeles tomorrow as the Southern California Plymouth Model Plane Meet, an official state qualifying event for the Fourth International Model Plane contest, gets under way. Events will be held over Saturday and Sunday at three sites in the Los Angeles area. Free flight events, originally scheduled for East Los Angeles have been moved to Cranford Airport, Artesia, where they will get underway Saturday at 9 a.m. Indoor activities are set for the National Guard Armory in Exposition Park, Los Angeles, Saturday at 1 p.m. Control Line events will be held Sunday at Santa Anita park track beginning at 9 a.m. Awards will be presented at Santa Anita at 2 p.m. Locke Ties for Open First Spot TROON, Scotland, (AP)—Champion Bobby Locke shot a 70 in the third round of the British open golf championships this morning for a 211—good for a first place tie at 54 holes with half the field in. Also at 211 was Roberto De Vicenzo of Argentina. Locke was in third place when the day's play started. Bill Branch of Britain, second at the start, of the day's grueling 36 rounds which decide the title, shot a 78 to jump to 218. Fred Bullock, British pro, had 213 after his third straight 71. John Bulla of Pittsburgh, twice a runner up in this tourney, kept up with the leaders with a 71 for a 214 total at 54 holes. Frank Stanahan of Toledo, who won the British amateur title several weeks ago had putter trouble, getting a 73 for a 220, virtually eliminating him from title consideration.
