County Budget Faces Million Dollar Increase The Orange County Supervisory opened department budget studies this week—and looming right there on the books is the prospect of a $1,000,000 increase in the total budget. The hikes chiefly are in the Welfare department and the County hospital. With that bit of news, corresponding prospects of a boost to the tax rate became a hot topic of speculation in official circles. Some quarters predict that the present county tax rate will be $9 per $100 of assessed property valuation, the lowest county rate the state, and the only county under $1 this year, will not be creased. The higher budget may be set by increase in the total county assessed valuation, due to rapid growth and improvements.
