Trotters Vie for $5,000 Purse in Santa Anita Go ARCADIA—Ten leading contenders for the rich $50,000 Golden West Trot are eligible for tomorrow's $5,000 Del Mar Trot, feature of the first full week of racing in the 40-day Western Harness Racing Association meeting at Santa Anita Park. The De Mar, an 8-class conditioned trot, will be contested at 1 1/16 miles. If Racing Secretary-President Jenuine can arrange it there will be a free-for-all pace as the co-feature on the nine-race program. Newport Anglers Get Barracuda First barracudas of the 1950 season fell for fishermen's lines, according to report from Norm's Landing, Newport Beach, as both the Sport King and the Valencia returned to port with scooters aboard last Sunday. Total catch for last week included Sunday's 42 barracuda, 801 calico bass, 798 halibut, 29 white sea bass and 555 sculpin. Starting May, three boats will leave Norm's Landing daily. Times: Speed King 5 a.m., Valencia 6 a.m., Sport King 7 a.m. At present the latter two boats are running at times indicated. The 3,500-mile-long Nile has no tributaries for the last 1,700 miles of its journey to the sea. Poly Royal Relays Set April 28-29 SAN LUIS OBISPO—The second annual Poly Royal Relays with Los Angeles city college playing the role of defending champions will highlight the athletic events of the 18th Poly Royal to be held on the campus of California State Polytechnic college, April 28-29. The board said the county's assessed value totaled $439,154,190 and that the average rate per $100 was $4.25. Local taxes on tangible property for the fiscal year reached the total of $710,411,131 nearly three-quaters of a billion dollars, the board said, representing an increase of eight percent over the previous year's total of $657,616,-709. Accompanying the increase, however, was a rise of 8½ percent in the assessed value of property, which reduced the average tax rate from $5.39 to $5.37 per hundred.
