SOCIAL AND CLUB ACTIVITIES OF THE WEEK
Anaheim Members of Ebell Garden Section at County Meeting in Orange
More than 350 women representing the garden clubs of the county, were present at the luncheon and program, "Legend of the Flowers," which followed a regular meeting of th Garden section of the Woman's Club of Orange in the clubhouse. Great branches of white flowering peach made a background for the pageant on the stage and spring flowers were used down the lengths of the tables. Mrs. C. C. Bonebrake, southern district president of the Federation of Women's clubs, headed the luncheon committee. Mrs. L. F. Finley, president of the Garden Section of the Orange club, introduced the distinguished guests and the leaders of the sections in the county, Mrs. Austin of the Anaheim Garden Club and Mrs. Floyd Peterson, leader of the Anaheim Ebell Garden section were introduced and they in turn introduced their members. More than sixty women from Anaheim were in attendance.
Mrs. Thelma Burns in an aqua and gold metallic formal and wearing an orchid corsage was the narrator giving the legend of the flowers carried by the models. Musical accompaniments were given by voice students of the Orange Union high school. Accompanists were Miss Phyllis Berriman and Mrs. Margaret O'Kees. Charlotte Cook played violin obligatos. Phyllis Lucy Keyes is instructor of the students.
Each model carried flowers of which were narrated and sung. Mrs. Walter Kogler in imperial blue gown with sequin trim, carried a fan of violet tulle and violets with violets in her hair while Phyllis Berriman sang "The Violet" by Scarlatti.
Mrs. Herbert Nelson made aERS. A trio, Irene Perez, Mary Lou Meadows and Dixie Simpson sang "In My Garden" as Mrs. Ben Brocke, in soft grey gown, entered with an overflowing basket of garden flowers. May baskets were modeled by two children, Patricia Taylor and Lynn Pomeroy.
Kay Watson carried a basket of daisies and had as her accompanying singers, Darlene Krueger and Janie Benson, one in white and one in yellow gowns, the daisy colors. They sang "The False Prophet" by Scott.
Barbara Walker sang "Narcissus" as Mrs. Vernon Valentine in a smart black formal, entered carrying an arm bouquet of narcissus. Mrs. A. K. Halleck, wearing an 100-year-old fischu and representing "Mussie Tussie" disclosed how corsages of 100 years ago were wore on the wrist and often contained a love note from the donor. Mrs. Perry Grout carried a beautiful fan of peacock blue feathers and modeled the nosegay of the past. Mrs. Vernan Shippee, in aqua, demonstrated how a rose corsage of modern days is worn. Mrs. Winston Nichols, wearing a yellow gown and her little son, Gary, wearing a yellow linen suit, exemplified the rose as Clyde Wilson sang, "Mighty Lak a Rose."

Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Yungbluth 815 West Broadway honored the daughter, Mrs. Norvald (Dorothy Ulvestad on her birthday last day evening when they entertained members of their family with dinner party at their home.
Attractive table decorations the Easter motif were used to bouquets of flowers appropriate to the season were used in home.
Guests present were Mr. Mrs. Ted Kuchel and their daughters, Dorothy Jean Elaine; Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Rhoof of Los Angeles; Mr. and Mrs. Buerger of Los Angeles; Mr. Mrs. John Miller of Burbank their twin daughters, Joan Linda, and Edward Yungbluth brother of Dorothy.
Civil War Veterans Daughters Meet In Fullerton
Daughters of Union Veterans Civil War met at the IOOF in Fullerton on Monday, April enjoying a pot-luck at the hour. About 22 members will present.
Lovely decoration of various colored sweet peas and Ear nests of colored eggs in green sue paper nests were used as decorative theme at the luncheon.

Mrs. Herbert Nelson made a lovely picture, tall and graceful, in delft blue gown and carrying deep rose tulips as Joanne Cathcart sang, "The Naughty Tulip." Mrs. Raymond McCarthy was attractive in a brown formal gown and carried purple iris. Darlene Vaughn, a little blonde blue-eyed girl, in pink organdy formal, carved a basket of forget-me-nots and had as her accompanying singer, Mary Lou Meadows who sang "Forget-me-not" by Carrie Jacobs Bond.
Mrs. Harold Gimeno, in a stately white crepe gown carried a sheath of calla lilies and Mrs. Daisy Butler in an aqua gown wore a corsage of and carried dogwood, as Mrs. Burns related the Easter significance of these flowers.
The production was sponsored by the program committee including Mesdames Finley, George Seba, Paul Harwood, Edgar Bell, Charles Oldfield, and William Labahn. Flowers were furnished by Orange florists, Batterman's, Richards, Rothenberger's and The Orange Florists.
Mrs. Floyd Peterson, leader of the Home and Garden section of the Ebell club, urges all members to attend the next meeting of the section on April 10 at the clubhouse. Dessert will be served at 1:30 p.m. The program scheduled at 2 p.m. will have as speaker Mrs. Bertha Doyle, instructor of floral culture at the Major Bateson School of Floristry. Yungbluth's Honor Daughter at Birthday Dinner
and Mrs. F. A. Yungbluth of West Broadway honored their sister, Mrs. Norvald (Dorothy)stad on her birthday last Friday evening when they entertain members of their family with a party at their home.

Civil War Veterans' Daughters Meet Fullerton
Daughters of Union Veterans of Civil War met at the IOOF hall Fullerton on Monday, April 3, being a pot-luck at the noon hour. About 22 members were present.
A newly decoration of various red sweet peas and Easter eggs of colored eggs in green tissue nests were used as the native theme at the luncheon. After the luncheon, a bouquet of white and blue sweet peas was made up. All members signed a card and, with an Easter nest, these were taken to Mary Trent of Anaheim, who is confined to the Fullerton General hospital.
At 2 p.m., during the business meeting Maude English of Anaheim, was accepted as a new member. The group discussed plans for the department and national conventions scheduled to be held. The department convention will be held at Santa Cruz in April and the national convention is scheduled for August in Los Angeles with headquarters at the Biltmore Hotel.
After a delightful social hour, the meeting adjourned.
Shipkey Infant Christened Sunday
Master Carl Frederick Shipkey, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Wade Shipkey, 11621 Placentia avenue, Walnut Acres, was christened by the Rev. John Kimball Saville of St. Michael's Episcopal church following the special Palm Sunday services.

In the absence of Mrs. Tommie Meridith, Sanderson, Texas., sister of Mrs. Jerry Shipkey, Mrs. Arthur Shipkey, Jr., was proxy godmother. She is the godmother of the Shipkey's first child, Julie Catherine, who will be two years old this June. Godfathers were Ted Sheridan and Art H. Shipkey, Jr.
A dinner party followed the ceremony at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Shipkey, Sr., on North East street.
Engagement of Doris DeWitt Told
Miss Doris DeWitt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Allen DeWitt, 123 South West street, announced the date of her forthcoming wedding May 27, to Phil Henry, son and Mrs. John Henry, Estes Colo., formerly of this city breakfast given by her mother the DeWitt home Palm Sh morning.
The table was covered dusty rose cloth and centered from the delicate pink to shades. Silver bells, used as juice cocktail coasters added the festive occasion. Be gold banded china, which nally belonged to the bride great grandmother added tishing touches. Miss Joan sister of Doris, assisted her with the breakfast.

Mr. and Mrs. Q. L. Perry of Orange have announced the engagement of their daughter, Cleta Lols, to John Hopkins, son of Mrs. Verna Hopkins of 925 North Dickel street.
Miss Perry is a graduate of Orange Union high school and attended Fullerton Junior college. Mr. Hopkins, a graduate of Ana-FJC alumnus.
