Social and Club Activities School of Fine Arts Presents Series of Four Easter Programs Amid lovely camellias, azaleas and radiant peach blossoms, four twilight musicals of Easter music were presented by the students of the Orange County School of Fine Arts late each afternoon in the natural setting of the fern bordered patios at the home of Mrs. Kate McCullah. Assisting Mrs. McCullah greet the guests was her daughter, Mrs. Raymond Ringwald. The students and hostesses served frozen fruit punch. Best known hymns of all denominations, attractively arranged with the story behind each hymn, was presented during the four musicals. Programs were full of youthful gaiety and warm happiness yet were deeply spiritual. Family groups were prominent in all four programs. Juliet and Frederick Stearns in an "Evening Prayer" were among this group, as were Kathleen and Sally Corde in Brahms' "Cradle Song;" the seven Mauerhan and Taylor cousins in an Easter Chorale; John and Diane Simpson,"Palm Branches;"the three Shigekawas in "Praise Him;" Loren and Shirley Pannier,"Now the Day Is Over;" Carol and Carl Robertson in Schumann's "Nocturne;" the three Balmers in an "Evening Prayer;" Gale and Jimmy Ringwald in an Eastern song; Jackie and Janice King in an old "Folk Tune;" the fourth Neslunds in"The Sweet Story." The Junior high school girls presented the Tuesday Musicale opening with an ultra modern Copeland, Robert Henderson, Richard Taylor, Gale Ringwald and Tommy Groat. Sacred music again was the setting for the Easter Victory hymn, "Christ the Lord Is Risen Today,"this being the closing group and was led by Gloria and Marian Taylor.Biff Copeland received his gold harp as a new member of the honor society Sandy Knapp, his first gold note. The Thursday program featured the high school department who presented a superb program of Easter hymns as well as excerpts from the classics For the opening number Gloria.Taylor和 Barbara Mauerham played Mallot's musical setting of "Pledge to the Flag."Musicianship and versatile interpretation were displayed by Shirley PANNERin Cole PORTER'S“Begin the Beguine;”Barbara Mauerhan in anexquisiteChopin PreLude; StuartSchmidintheopeningthemeofMozart’sSonatainc”和JimKersteininthebrilliant “Marchfrom"Aida.”Bill Jensen, tener, sangthewellspiritual.“Ave Maria”accompaniedbyhercousinh.KatherineSpire.ForethreshingleadatrResurrectionhythmledByHristicaKnapp. Mrs.Wayland's Official Visit To Auxiliary The Santa Ana Country ClosestethesettingfortheAprilmeetingofthewoman'sAuxiliarytheOrangeCountyMedialAssociationofCalifornia.onTuesday April4.Thestatepresident,M.ReymundT.Wayland.ofSanJo paidherofficialvisitandspokeonthelworkofthesociation. Spring Flower Show Opens April 20 Men as well as women, and the kids, too, will have an opportunity to display their best creative efforts with flowers at the Southern California Spring Flower and Garden Show, April 20-23, in Pasadena's Brookside Park. Twenty-two classes of competition are open in the flower arrangement section, with both men and women eligible for blue ribbon awards, including one class for children under twelve years of age; it was announced today by Victor H. Pinckney, manager. 16 Classes Among sixteen classifications specifying standard-size arrangements is one calling for flowers in a bottle display; another for oriental influence in an oriental container. More typical arrangements include those for a dining room table and a contemporary living room. One class is devoted to orchid corsages alone. Miniatures ranging from two to six inches in height offer six classes to hobbyists interested in the tiny floral exhibits. Attracting scores of entries in this section of the annual spring event, the arrangements occupy one entire building of the Fannie E. Morrison Horticultural Center. They are in addition to the regular schedule listing 250 competitive classes for amateurs and private growers. Entry blanks can be secured from the sponsoring Pasadena Flower Show Association’s headquarters, 675 Rosemont Avenue, Pasadena. April 15 is the deadline and there is no entry fee.
