Fullerton JC Favored to Take National Swim Meet
Junior colleges from different parts of the United States will start assembling in Fullerton next week for the National College swim meet. The meet will be March 30-April 1. The events are scheduled to start each night at 8 p.m. Fullerton will be the favorites and defending champions in the fourteen events that will be spread out over the three days.
One of the outstanding events will be the 100-yard breaststroke, when Glendale’s champ Ashley Jones swims against Fullerton’s aquatic star Jimmy Jones. Both swimmers have been turning in excellent times all season and it is expected to be anybody’s race.
Roy Brown of Fullerton will be another main attraction, as he will be trying to break several national records. He now holds three national records in the 220 yd., 60 yd. and 100 yd. free style. He has also been on two national record-holding relay teams.
There will be an array of talent in addition to the regular swimming heats. Some of the great stars will be Vicki Draves, Olympic diver, and her husband, Lyle Draves; Juno Stover, Pat Keller McCormick, and Paula Jean Myers from the Los Angeles Athletic club will put on a diving exhibition;
Jerry Tenny, Jack Roth, Jerry Harrison, Jack Killian and John McCormick will also do a diving routine. Dick Hull, Dale Kroshower, and Ronnie Dalson will fill in with their comedy routine as the Dilly Dallies.
Vicki Draves will present the awards on Friday and Saturday nights.
There will be an advance ticket sale starting Monday, March 27. You can pick up your tickets in the Dean's office or at Nielsen's Clothing Shop on Spacra.
