Whittier Nine Opens Season With Redlands
Highlight of this week's spring sports schedule will be the opening of the S.C.I.A.C. baseball play as the Whittier College nine treks to Redlands to meet the University of Redland's Bulldogs.
The Poet baseball squad meets the Loyola University team Thursday afternoon in preparation for the league encounter. Originally scheduled to be played at the Lion diamond, the site has been changed and will be played at York Field in Whittier. The Quakers currently in a five game losing streak hope to get back into the winning habit by downing both the Loyolans and the Redlands squad. Redlands and Whittier are defending co-champs of the 1949 loop race and the outcome of the tilt on Saturday afternoon should give some indication of the outcome of the current horsehide race.
Whittier College's track and field team will be definite underdogs when they travel to Occidental College Friday for their second league meet and the first night meet in Quaker sports history. Having finished last in the Conference Relays and losing to Pomona in their first league encounter, the Poets are conceded little chance to give the Tigers much trouble. Meet records will be in danger in the "under the lights" tilt as the strong Oxy squad has broken records in every meet so far this season.

Call for State Road Building Finance Plan
SACRAMENTO (WNS) — With the declaration that California cannot hope to catch up with its highway needs with present revenues, Senator Luther T. Gibson of Vallejo has called for the establishment of a sound highway construction financing plan.
Gibson introduced a resolution asking the senate to create a special committee to study the problem of highway financing and its relationship to unemployment.
"It is no more possible for the state of California to provide capital construction from an annual income than it is for the average home owner to wait until he has saved the full purchase price of the house before buying it," Gibson stated.
Total $2 Billion
He said estimates for present highway needs total $2 billion. Revenues for new highway construction now provide $93 million per year. At that rate the senator pointed out the state will always lag far behind its needs due to the growing population and increased highway use.
Failure to recognize the problem and provide a sound solution not only will result in retarding the state's growth but the toll in life and property damage is beyond comprehension, the senator stated.
Gibson's resolution follows on the heels of a proposal made by Los Angeles assemblyman Sam Yorty for a billion dollar bond issue.

GI Bill Study Deadline Is July 25, 1951
Veterans who have been saving up all or part of their entitlement to education or training under the GI Bill of Rights, or who are planning to use both Federal and State educational assistance to reach their training goal are advised by Ben Liebermann, County Service Officer, not to delay any longer about putting their plans in order.
For veterans discharged before July 25, 1947, the great majority, the deadline for starting training under the GI Bill is July 25, 1951. While this may seem still far in the future, unless an educational program is carefully planned in advance a veteran may find that regulations will operate to prevent his getting the full benefits to which he is entitled.
For example, the Veterans Administration is expected to issue in the near future a regulation which will define and limit the use a veteran may make of his GI Bill of educational rights after July, 1951.
For another, the approach of the readline means that those veterans who want to use both GI Bill and State educational assistance should start now to plan their Knight. Albert Raymond; Lecturing Knight, John Shea; secretary, Warren Ashleigh; trustee, Lyman Packard; treasurer, C. M. Woodbury; tiler, John Lasch, and alternate delegate to Grand Lodge, Bus Callan.
The installation of the new officers will be held on April 12 at the local club with Past Exalted Rulers from Pasadena lodge conferring the ritual. They will be accompanied by the Toppers, marching unit. This contingent from Pasadena will serve as grand lodge officers for the installation.
The date of April 15 has been set as the annual inaugural ball for the local members and their ladies.

Tex Oliver, the new football coach at Fullerton Junior college, addressed the Lions at their weekly meeting on Friday.
Mr. Oliver, late of the University of Oregon, when asked what the football prospects for FJC were for the coming fall, said that he wouldn't be quoted yet, but he wishes to announce that they are not afraid of any team in the conference.

find out how much better the Exchange can and will do for you.
Remember—Exchange fruit commands a premium in the market, not only on Sunkist grade but on other grades.
Remember—Exchange selling costs are lower, far lower! Last year's sales cost came to 10 7/10c per packed box. Compare that with your own assessment.
A figure 2 to 3 times this high is the rule, rather than the exception with other marketing organizations.

Remember that, in the Exchange, the cost of new plants and equipment for processing products fruit is not borne by one or two thousand growers, but is spread out over the vast tonnage of 14,500 growers. The new Exchange frozen orange concentrate plant at Ontario is an example.
Remember, too, that the Exchange orange and lemon products plants are the only ones in California equipped to take out of the fruit everything that can be sold. All others manufacture only a few products.
Remember, above all, that it's the return on your total crop that counts. Beware of extravagant claims. But the cold facts show that Exchange growers come out better.
How will you come out in the Exchange?
Let us show you!
We have a method of comparing returns which you will find fair and honest. It's based, not on random "field box comparisons," but on careful figuring that takes into account grades, sizes, quantities and weights.
Would you like such a comparison made from your statement? The chances are 10 to 1 your return would have been higher in the Exchange.
Drop a line today to Felton Browning, Grower Service Department, Sunkist Building, Los Angeles 54, California. An experienced Exchange man will call on you. We will welcome the opportunity to work out a comparison for you without obligation.
