Callaghan, Jr., today reported a total of 20,152 homes in 55 California counties are being financed for veterans at a cost of $120,319,138. The figure, which is 25 per cent higher than a year ago, is what the state has advanced to the home-buying veterans on a low-cost financing plan under the state's farm and home purchase program. In Orange county there were 395 state home purchase contracts active as of December 31, 1949, totaling $2,575,657. Veterans receiving aid through the program pay back the money in monthly installments with 3 percent interest. The interest covers the entire cost of operating the program, which thus involves no expense to the taxpayers of the state.
