Counties Ask State Share Pension Cost SACRAMENTO, (WNS)—Faced with an additional tax burden of $27,000,000 as the result of return of old age and blind aid to county levels, the county supervisors association has announced it will ask the March legislature to shoulder half this burden. According to the association's estimates, $547,568 would be necessary to finance the county share of the program in Orange county, and the state will be asked to put up $268,133 as compared to the county's $279,435. The association estimates the addition to the county's tax rate if it is required to take all of its share would be $.125 on the hundred whereas if the state takes approximately half, the rate would amount to only $.064, resulting in a savings of $.061. Not Expected The announcement was not unexpected, as advises received previously at the capitol indicated the supervisors would ask the state to finance a big share of the aid payments after Proposition No. 4 was voted out. The state will in fact, finance all of the payments from March 1, when Proposition 2 goes into effect, until July 1. If the supervisors association prevails in its request, however, the state faces the probability of either operating in the red or imposing new taxes to finance old age and blind assistance pay- until you are authorized to attend one of the schools—and that's the one you'll go to. If you want good practical trade training, the Army can give it to you. There are over 30 technical schools to choose from. Classes are provided in such fields as engineering, mechanics, food service, electronics and administration. A school is available to you in practically any field in which you might be interested. This really proves there's something new—something different in an Army career. The Army's technical school training program has never been equalled in history. Your high school diploma is your key to a successful future. When you bring it to my office you can literally "write your own ticket" for the Army technical training you want—with good pay and many other benefits while you learn. When you think about the kind of job you want, now that you're graduated, stop for a minute to consider the Army technical school plan. I'll be glad to talk it over with you, so drop into my office, the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force Recruiting Service, located in the City Hall in Fullerton, telephone Fullerton 841. Authorize Traffic Signal Installation at Tustin Crossing SACRAMENTO, (WNS)—The State Division of Highways today was authorized to advertise for bids on a traffic signal installation at Tustin, Orange county. The system would be located at the intersection of D street with Main street in the city, on Highway 101. The work, it is estimated, will cost approximately $10,800, and BRODIE'S "House of Lights" 112 N. LA. PH. 4070 A trial will Convince You When You Want the Best S. T. HAMMOND R. T. West St. - Anaheim Phone 3668 If the supervisors association prevails in its request, however, the state faces the probability of either operating in the red or imposing new taxes to finance old age and blind assistance payments. Governor Warren has indicated that a balanced budget is expected, but he has not as yet had opportunity to comment on how much the supervisors proposed request will unbalance the state's finances. It was assumed the request would not be included in the Governor's budget, but if voted at all by the legislature, would be in a special appropriation bill. "If the counties of California are to assume again the administration of aged and blind aid as called for by Article 27 (Proposition No. 2)" the association said, "the state in all fairness should provide them with a lessening of the burden due to increased aged aid load in this state. 'In Dead Earnest' "Property taxpayers have their backs up, and local boards of supervisors will do everything they can to see that state-wide programs, even though locally administered, should be borne mainly on the broader state tax base rather than on the narrow general county property tax base. "The counties are in dead earnest in this legislative program and hope to obtain the support of the legislature in their efforts to see that their narrow property tax base is not over-burdened by these additional welfare costs." Crux of the situation is that under the constitutional amendment, somebody must pay the old aged and blind relief, and the possibility exists that unless county property tax rates are raised to meet the costs, some additional state tax may be levied to foot the bill. Leverett of 504 Magnolia Ave., Fullerton; Lester B. Johnson of 706 W. Center street, Anaheim; Jerry L. Bach of 532 Whittaker street, Buena Park; Benjamin H. Reese of 525 E 2nd street, La Habra; and Richard S. Griggs of 504 Magnolia Ave., Fullerton. All of these men enlisted for a term of four years and will take their basic training of 14 weeks at Lackland Air Base near San Antonio, Texas. After basic training, they will be sent to schools for technical training before permanent assignment to some air field. Mid-term graduation is over and it has me thinking about what I expected back when I got out of school. Things were really tough. Oh sure, they're a bit tough now but back then you had to fight to find a good job, and the pay was low and the hours long. Sure you could join the Army, but you didn't have the opportunities and benefits offered by the Army nowadays. Take for instance the Army's high school graduate technical school plan. This is the best deal offered yet. Under this set-up, before you enlist you pick an Army technical school you want to attend, and you don't sign up until you're assigned to the school of your choice. I can guarantee there won't be any slip ups when you enlist under the high school graduate plan. You don't enlist... LEGAL NOTICES (Pub. Anaheim Gazette Feb. 2, 9, 16 and 23, 1950.)
