Anaheim’s Churches Plan Special Christmas Services (Continued from Page 1) the Common Place.” The evening service will begin at 7:30 o’clock, following the 6:30 o’clock youth meeting. Last Sunday night the church presented an impressive cantata, “While Shepherds Watched.” Mrs. Neva Collins was soloist while duets were presented by Mrs. Hazel Washbon and Mrs. Ing Miller, and Mrs. Charlotte Pentecost and Mrs. Collins. The choir was directed by Rev. Corlett who also sang a solo, Planist was Miss Bernice Swain. Soft lights will reflect upon a replica of the manger scene depicting Mary and Joseph and the cradle holding the Christ Child during the annual presentation of the children’s Christmas program Friday night at 7:30 o’clock in the church. At this kiddies’ yule program the mixed children’s choir, wearing robes, will sing under the direction of Mrs. Collins. Rev. Corlett will direct the adult choir. Christmas songs will be sung by the teenage class led by Mrs. Ina Miller. Recitations and songs will be interpreted by the primary class directed by Mrs. Lyle (Olive) Blystone. Treats will be featured for all adults and children present at the close of the program. White Temple Methodist With two outstanding programs, the White Temple Methodist church at East Broadway and include a Christmas tree and treats for all the children of the Sunday school. Following the overture by the church orchestra, Paul Jungkeit, Sunday school superintendent, will welcome those present. The nursery department will present an exercise entitled “The Bells” and sing a song “Jesus Had a Birthday.” Songs, recitations and drills will be presented by the Beginners’ department. June Carol Jungkeit will be in charge of the offertory selection. A play, “No Time, No Room,” will be staged by the Primary department which also will give recitations, drills and songs. Christmas music featuring Dallas Bowen and Marilyn Litz, soloist, will be presented by the Intermediate department which will stage a pageant, “The Greatest Story Ever Told.” Sheila Wilson will portray the Madonna; Donald Bohnet will appear as Joseph; Nancy Mabs and Lynn McLaughlin, angels; Clinton Stark, David Bressel, Bobby Domries, shepherds; Eddie Jewett, Bobby Litz, Billy Ballman, wise men; Ruth Mabs, herald. Organist for the program will be Miss Esther Leuschner. Planists will include Miss Mildred Remland and Mrs. Ruth Mabs. Violinist will be Herbert Stabbert. White Temple Methodist With two outstanding programs, the White Temple Methodist church at East Broadway and Philadelphia street, is celebrating the Christmas season. Friday night at 7:15 o'clock the church school will present the annual Christmas program in the sanctuary of the church. The Cecilian girls choir comprising junior department and junior high girls and the junior boys choir, together with boys and girls of the primary department will furnish a program of music. In addition to the music, a verse speaking choir of Junior girls will read several selections including the Christmas story from the Gospel of Saint Luke. More than 75 children will participate in this program. A fellowship hour will follow during which refreshments will be served. With plans to make it an annual affair, the first Christmas Carol dinner was presented by the Temple choir last night (Wednesday). The unique program included some rarely-heard carols. Following the Friday night program, the choirs and Methodist Youth Fellowship groups will take the message of Christmas to shut-ins thro' caroling tours throughout the city. First Presbyterian A Christmas Eve candlelight service of carols and Communion will be held at the First Presbyterian church, 310 West Broadway, Saturday night, according to the Rev. Howard S. Congdon, pastor. On Sunday morning, Christmas Day, at 11 o'clock, the Yule service of common worship will be held, at which time Rev. Congdon will deliver a special message. Junior high young people of the church will attend snow retreat at Idyllwild, Tuesday, December 27, through Thursday, December 29, under the guidance of Rev. and Mrs. Congdon. The Christmas tree was artistically decorated at the church by the Westminster Youth Fellowship, comprised of Presbyterian young people, at 7 o'clock last Sunday evening. Organist for the program will be Miss Esther Leuschner. Pianists will include Miss Mildred Remland and Mrs. Ruth Mabs. Violinist will be Herbert Stabbert. Alfred Hartman will sing a solo and a duet will be interpreted by Misses Myra and Alice Fries while a trio selection will be sung by Misses Donan Stabbert, Marlene Fox and Carol Domries. Little Miss Shiela Wilson will sing a solo. White Christmas gifts will be presented in an impressive ceremony. They will be accepted by Paul Jungkeit as the entire audience sings "Joy to the World" as benediction. Church of Christ Regular Sunday services will be conducted Christmas Day at the Church of Christ, 325 West Broadway, the Rev. A. J. Casebeer, pastor, stated. Sunday school will be at 9:30 o'clock, followed by the 10:50 o'clock morning worship hour when the pastor will speak on "Christmas, the Day of Man's Triumph." Anthem for the occasion will be "The Christmas Choir." Last night (Wednesday) a fellowship dinner was held in the church's dining hall followed by the annual Sunday school Christmas program, with Sylvia Dobbins acting as general chairman. Master of ceremonies was Niel Burmaster. Song leader was Frank Redpath. The children's departments presented songs and recitations and a play entitled "Good Tidings" was presented by the intermediate department and high school classes. Grand finale to the program was the appearance of Santa Claus who presented Christmas candy to the youngsters. Last Sunday the Christmas cantata, "Yuletide Memories," by Ira Wilson, was presented under the direction of Warren Baker. Organist was Marshall McFie. Bethany Full Gospel A two-scene pageant "A Little Child Shall Lead Them" will be staged tomorrow (Friday) night at 7 o'clock at the Bethany Full Gospel church, 121 West Cypress street, according to the pastor, the Rev. J. F. Moll. Recitations by Sunday school youngsters will follow the play. The Girls' trio led by the pastor's wife, Mrs. Moll, will sing Christmas carols. Treats will be given all the children present at the conclusion of the program. Carrying out the usual Sunday schedule Christmas day, the Sunday school will convene at 9:40 o'clock followed by morning worship at 10:50 o'clock. Defender service will begin at 6:30 o'clock that evening after which the regular evening worship will be held at 7:30 o'clock. Bethel Baptist: Good contrast will mark the annual Christmas program of the Bethel Baptist church, Broadway at Lemon street, Christmas night at 7 o'clock. For the meditation, a duet entitled "Christmas Song" by Gounod will be sung by Mrs. Elmer Peter and Mrs. Rees, sopranos. The adult choir will present Geibel's "In Old Judea" for the morning anthem, with violin obligato by Carol Hochuli and incidental soprano solos by Mrs. Clarence Mauerhan. Miss Carol Bostick, church organist, will accompany the singers. Sermon topic to be given by Rev. Selfridge will be "Christ, the Savor, Is Born." Traditional Christmas hymns and carols will be presented during the evening service by the combined Youth and Adult choirs. Opening with the Introit, the singers will interpret "The First Noel." "O Come, All Ye Faithful" will be sung with soprano descent by the Youth choir, followed by the Christmas scripture reading from the Bible. The old favorite, "Cantique de Noel" by Adam will be sung by the combined choirs, "Lo, Now a Rose Is Blooming" by Praetorius. Rev. Selfridge will give another special Christmas address entitled "No Room." Preceeding the benediction, the combined choirs will sing a descent arrangement of the hymn "Silent Night, Holy Night" by Gruber. A special Christmas will be held tomorrow night at 7:30 o'clock in the under the sponsorship of Missionary Volunteer Society and recitations will be given Dr. C. O. Seventh Day Adventist Regular Sabbath school will be held at the Seventh Day Adventist church, 198 East Amerige avenue, Fullerton, Saturday morning at 9:30 o'clock with the Elder J. L. Brown, returned missionary from South America, speaking in the absence of the church's pastor, the Rev. Robin H. Kezer of Anaheim. Saturday, December 31, at 11 o'clock in the morning, special speaker at the church will be Glenn Calkins, one-time president of the south-eastern California Conference of Seventh Day Adventists. More recently Mr. Calkins worked in Central America. A special Christmas program will be held tomorrow (Friday) night at 7:30 o'clock in the church under the sponsorship of the Missionary Volunteer Society. Carols and recitations will be given. Dr. C. O. Patterson of Anaheim (Wednesday). The program opened with the singing of Yule carols followed by recitations and musical numbers including piano and vocal solos and duets. Mass schedule for Christmas Day will begin with high Mass at 6 o'clock in the morning followed by low Masses at 7:30, children's Mass at 8:30 o'clock, and 10, and 11 o'clock. Solemn High Mass will be held at 12 o'clock, noon, with Rev. David Coleman officiating. Rev. Dee will officiate for the first and second Masses on Christmas day. Aracoeli services will be conducted at 8:30 o'clock Christmas morning at the children's Mass. Maurice Dee. Hours for confessions Friday afternoon and evening, December 23, will be from 3 to 5 o'clock and from 7 to 9 o'clock, he said. Saturday, December 24, Christmas eve, Confessions will be heard from 10 to 11:30 a.m. for children; from 3 to 5 o'clock in the afternoon for everyone and from 7-9:30 for adults in the evening. The regular Sacrament meeting will be held that night at 7 o'clock in the church, he stated. Christmas carols will be sung Friday evening by a troupe of the church's young people who comprise the MIA (Mutual Improvement Association). Shut-ins and other members of the church will be visited by the group which will meet at the church at 7:30 o'clock. Al Preddis is in charge of the men's MIA group while Mrs. Roy (Harriet) Cummings is leader of the young women of the association, Mormons attended their annual Christmas party and program Tuesday night at the church. An impressive pageant unfolded tableau by tableau depicting "Christmas in Many Lands." The closing curtain fell upon the traditional manger scene. Santa Claus presented boxes of candy to all youngsters present at the conclusion of the party. Christmas season programs of other Anaheim churches, not listed here, were not available at press-time. St. Michael’s Plans Christmas Eve Choral Eucharist Starting at 11 P.M. Christmas at St. Michael’s will begin with thoughts of others as the Junior choir goes caroling Friday afternoon, December 23rd, to the homes of parish invalids and shut-ins, following choir practice at 3 p.m. The first Christmas service in the church will be Saturday, December 24, at 4 p.m. when the Family Carol Candle-light program will be held. Brahm’s “Lullaby” will be sung by the Junior choir, directed by Mrs. Robert Hardin and accompanied by Miss Hazel Erickson, organist. Mrs. Hardin will also sing “Jesu, Bambino,” by Pietro Yon, as an introit. The Rector will give a Christmas story. Midnight Choral The midnight Choral Eucharist will begin at 11 p.m. with "O Come All Ye Faithful" as the processional, followed by Mozart's "Alleluia" sung by Mrs. Hardin. Following the Christmas Epistle, Mrs. Bert Beard will sing "Cantique de Noel" by Adolphe Adam. The whole choir, directed by Mrs. Walter Ross and accompanied by Mr. Ernest Zitzmann, violinist, and Miss Erickson, will sing "There Were Shepherds" as an offertory. The Communion Service will be a plainsong setting from the Medieval period. At midnight, between verses of "Silent Night, Holy Night," twelve strokes on the church bell will signify the beginning of Christmas Day, and the Communion Prayer of Consecration will commence.
