Stockwell Pupils Give Recital
Piano students and their mothers were entertained by Mrs. Darwin Stockwell, local musical instructor, Saturday evening at her monthly, repertoire party.
The pupils played selections on the piano including Christmas songs after refreshments of ice cream and cake had been served.
Special attention was given to the interpretations of "About Strange Lands and People" by Shumann and "Coquetry" by Reinhold, presented by Lloyd Stockwell; "Sonatina" by Clementi, played by Glenn Stockwell, and MacDowell's "To a Wild Rose," presented by Joey Langford of Orange.
This trio of talented young musicians will present a broadcast over station KGFJ, Friday, December 30. At this time Gary Korn will play "March of the Wee Folk," a douo-piano number, with Joey Langford.
Those present at the repertoire party with their mothers, other than students above mentioned, included Judy Miller, Elva Lynn Glenn, Janice Garrison, Virlee Elliott, Janice Troutman, Elenore Fewks, Judy Brubaker, Priscilla Cranston, Sharon Comstock, Charlyn Schmid, Mary Ann Hammatt and Bill Hammatt.
Joanne Roselle Presented in Recital Sunday
Miss Joanne Roselle, talented violin student of Vladimir Lenski, was presented in recital last Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Anaheim Conservatory of Music, Mrs. Anna Siegel director. Assisting Miss Roselle was little Miss Kathleen Lenski, three-year old violinist, and Mrs. Charlotte Lenski, pianist. Mr. Lenski is violin teacher at the local conservatory.
Including on her reportoire for the event, Miss Roselle played "Sonata, No. 4" by Handel; "Concerto, Op. 64" by Mendelssohn; with its various movements.
Kathleen Lenski played several Christmas melodies including "Silent Night," "Lullaby" and "Adeste Fidelus."
Miss Roselle concluded the program with the playing of "Ave Maria" by Schubert-Wilhelm pink satin dress. Accompanying her was Mrs. Lenski, herself a great artist of violin and piano. She was gowned in tones of silver and blue. Each wore a beautiful corsage.
Mrs. Lenski also accompanied her little daughter when she played three numbers on her tiny violin. In order that she could be seen by the assembled guests, little Kathleen had to stand on a piano bench for the rendition of her portion of the program.
Delightful refreshments of iced punch and cookies were served at the conclusion of the afternoon.
Business Women Enjoy Annual Christmas Party

Although it was damp outside it was not damp inside, spokesmen quipped. In the absence of president Deloris Chronister and vice-president Marguerite Coons, Josephine Fulfer, second vice-president presided over the festivities.
Yule themed solos were presented by Mrs. Eleanor Sanford accompanied by Miss Donna Thomas at the keyboard. Group singing of Christmas carols were also enjoyed.
Humor and reverie touched the group as each member related the one outstanding past Christmas in her memory. Susie Brown was program chairman.

Red and green garlands with silver bells added to the room decoration, the center of attraction being the large Christmas tree. Stars shone over the manger which contained a life size baby doll made by a German artist. After the program, Mrs. Siegel read the story of the Nativity from the Bible and explained the meaning of the Savior coming too the world. The entire group of students and guests sang Christmas songs accompanied by Jose Arriaza, recently come to this continent from Guatemala to study music with Mrs. Siegel. Suddenly Jose started playing "Jingle Bells" and from out of doors faint tinkling of bells grew louder and louder until a knock was heard at the door and Santa Claus entered in his customary red and white costume. Mr. N. Talley was the clever old St. Nick, much to the delight of the youngsters. He spoke to the children and brought a nice present of a bag of candy for everyone.
At the close of the evening, iced punch and cookies were served to the 40 guests present.

"We are a little over three thousand feet altitude, while the mountain rises in one grand slope over eleven thousand feet more at one view—the base, up to eight thousand feet, clothed with pines, cedars, and firs, all above that a desolate waste of rock and snow. How we gazed on it that night from camp as the moon rose I even got up in the night to see it by the better illumination of the moon after midnight"
William H. Brewer, principal assistant with the Whitney Geological Survey of California, described California's resources, geography, cities, and people in serially numbered letters written home to his family some ninety years ago. "Up and Down California in 1860-1864" presents his letters edited, annotated, and arranged by Francis P. Farquhar, twice president of the Sierra Club and author of "Yosemite," "The Big Trees, and The High Sierra."
