Western Fairs Convenes Today For Convention Los Angeles, Dec. 8—Representatives of more than 95 state, county and district fairs in eight western states and Canada, today began arriving in Los Angeles for the 27th annual convention of Western Fairs Association. More than 600 fair managers and officials of fairs in California, Oregon, Washington, Utah, Arizona, Nevada, North Dakota, Texas, and Canada are expected to attend the convention which will open formally at 9 a.m., Friday, Dec. 9. Highlighting the meeting will be sessions with the Assembly Interim Committee on Fairs and Expositions, of the California legislature, when finance and budgets for the coming year will be studied; election of officers for 1950; area group meetings, during which 1950 fair dates in California's seven areas will be established; the "Fair Forum" when problems and procedures of fair operation will be discussed in an open panel meeting; and general business sessions. Among those who registered today at convention headquarters in the Biltmore Hotel were: L. A. Patch, manager; H. Clay Kellogg, of Garden Grove, president; Roy Edwards, of Orange, vice-president; Mrs. Carolyn Henderson, of Santa Ana, secretary; of the Orange County Fair, Santa Ana; and directors George Tobias, W. F. Croddy, of Santa Ana; A. J. Schutte, of Anaheim. Sex Crime Conference Convenes Sacramento (WNS)—A conference to discuss the problem of sex crimes in California got under way Wednesday as representatives of law enforcement agencies met here at the call of Governor Earl Warren. The Peace Officers association, District Attorneys association, Justice and Constables association, Sheriff's association, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Adult Authority, Youth Authority, Department of Corrections, Department of Justice, and other agencies, are represented at the conference. Seven points of discussion were outlined by the governor for discussion, including the question of whether the sex crime problem is of greater intensity at the present time than it has been in the past. The governor has included the problem of sex crimes in his call for a special session of the legislature, and the conference will go away here is expected to devise necessary legislation for coneration. Other questions included in discussion are: In what parts of the state sex crimes most prevalent; we now have to combat the situation; co-ordination of such enforcement of the laws; handling of sex crimes in the courts; medical treatment of offenders; what changes should be made existing law and what if any legislation should be adopted? Taxes Are a Big Issue Tax revisions next year are sure to be held down at least the present figures. But needn't be surprised if the prosecution will be knocked in head by both political parties is a sure thing that all the people are sick and tired of higher taxes. Even President man isn't saying very much about pet project of his. He knows that the budgets of the government will be way out of hand in the year ending June 30.
