Highway Patrol Alerted for Holiday Season
Sacramento, (WNS) — California highway patrol captains had been alerted to day for the forthcoming holiday season by state highway patrol commissioner Clifford E. Peterson.
The highway patrol chief said the full strength of the patrol will be on duty during the Armistice, Thanksgiving and Christmas-New Year holidays.
Present strength of the patrol is approximately 1100 patrolmen.
He said the 275 motorcycle officers will be on duty in the heavy traffic areas.
Peterson reported an increase in the traffic accident ratio during the past two months and said the patrol will be doing its utmost to keep the accident rate down during the holiday season.
In his statement cautioning motorists to exercise care during their holiday excursions Peterson reminded that this year there will be more driving after dark than during the holidays last year when daylight saving time was in effect.
Munsey Services Held Tuesday
Funeral services for Joyce Elaine Munsey, 17-month-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Davis Munsey, 812 East Sycamore street, Ana-chapel with the Rev. John F. Moll, pastor of the Bethany Pentecostal heim, were conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Hilgenfeld church, officiating.
The child died early Saturday morning at an Orange hospital following a brief illness. Entombment will be in Melrose Abbey Mausoleum.
In addition to her parents she leaves one brother, Larry D. Munsey, and her paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ira E. Munsey who live at 1143 West Broadway, Anaheim.
Bed-Ridden Claimant Denied Disability Money
Sacramento, (WNS)—The California unemployment insurance appeals board has announced a ruling which deprived a bed-ridden claimant disability benefits.
The claimant filed for insurance through his wife while sick in bed, the decision said. He received one check, and his wife failed to see the card for a continued claim in the envelope which contained the check.
When the claimant recovered, he attempted to secure insurance for the remainder of his illness, but was denied on the grounds the time had expired.
About 34 million man-days of labor were lost through strikes in 1948.
