CHURCH NEWS
Special Music At Four-Square Church Sunday
"The Gospel Harmony Four" of Whittier will present a special musical program at the Four Square church, West Broadway at Manchester boulevard, this Sunday evening at 7:30, the Rev. G. L. Underwood, pastor announced.
Director of the gospel group is the Rev. Paul Andrus. The musicians play Hawaiian guitar, Spanish guitar, trumpet and harmonica. They are featured on their own 15-minute radio program over station KFSG, each Thursday night at 10 o'clock.
Boasting a fine duet, they will present a varied program here.
Choose Church Class Officers
St. Michael's Episcopal senior church school class recently chose officers at a meeting led by Mr. and Mrs. Joe Thompson in the old rectory building adjacent to the church.
New officers include Donna Sangster, president; Barbara Vander Heiden, vice-president; Betty Appley, secretary, and George Matouk, treasurer.
First meeting of the year was held early in October at the home of Dorothy Kuchel in Yorba Linda at which time a surprise birthday party honored Jane Richard.
Jack Conklin, Roch Conklin and Diane Cave attended the Youth Planning Conference at Forest Home, October 21 and 22.

made. Anaheim area telephones would be able to reach 34,648 more telephones in its added area, and the Cypress area telephones would be able to reach 147,233 more telephones in its added area.
The overall study made by Pa-tickets that would no longer have to be handled would effect an estimated saving of $37,000 to the company per year. Together with other minor items, the above would indicate a saving in operating expenses of $330,000 a year.
(8) Because of the savings under the plan, the total estimated increase in exchange charges to Pacific Company Orange County subscribers — $449,000 — would be considerably less than the amount

made. Anaheim area telephones would be able to reach 34,648 more telephones in its added area, and the Cypress area telephones would be able to reach 147,233 more telephones in its added area.
The overall study made by Pacific Telephone, the manager said, presumes full dial operation with subscriber dialing over extended service routes. There are now five Pacific Company non-dial operating centers in the Orange county study area: Fullerton, Balboa, Costa Mesa, Orange, and San Juan Capistrano.
The possible plan contained in the company's report to the Commission would mean complete extended service for all Pacific Company subscribers in Orange county.
Monthly toll messages (completed calls) originating in the Anaheim area of the Anaheim exchange and terminating in Orange county for the study period total 53,687, Rossberg pointed out. Under the plan, 50,656 of these messages would be within the Anaheim extended service area and therefore would become toll-free. This would mean a 94.4 per cent elimination of Orange county toll messages for the Anaheim area.
Monthly toll messages originating in the Cypress rate area of the Anaheim exchange and terminating in Orange county for the study period total 5,250. Under the plan, 4,892 of these messages would be toll-free. This would mean a 93.2 per cent elimination of Orange county monthly toll messages for the Cypress area.
The manager listed other important facts of the plan as follows:
(1) The company's experience indicates there will be a considerable increase in calls under the extended service plan.
(2) This means that additional telephone facilities would have to be provided to avoid congestion on the pathways of communications.
(3) To permit subscriber dialing of extended service calls directly, equipment must be added in the central office to select the proper path for the individual call and see it to its destination.
(4) Therefore, the company must add to its telephone plant. It is estimated that this additional plant irrespective of the conversion tickets that would no longer have to be handled would effect an estimated saving of $37,000 to the company per year. Together with other minor items, the above would indicate a saving in operating expenses of $330,000 a year.
(8) Because of the savings under the plan, the total estimated increase in exchange charges to Pacific Company Orange County subscribers — $449,000 — would be considerably less than the amount of the toll charge reduction for these subscribers of $644,000.
In order to provide extended service in the Anaheim exchange and other Pacific Company exchanges in Orange county as equitable and economical as possible for both subscribers and the company, Rossberg added, exchange service charges would have to be increased to approximately offset the difference between the toll revenue loss to the company and the net savings of the plan.
In the Anaheim area the possible extended service rates for the Anaheim area for a 1-party business would increase from $6.50 to $10. A 1-party residence would increase from $4.00 to $4.75.
Increases in the Cypress area would run from a $6.00 increase for 1-party business phones to $1 increase for a 1-party residence phones.
Other rates for the other types of service decrease accordingly.
In view of the expressed interest in extended service in Orange county, Pacific Telephone is arranging with county representatives and interested groups and individuals to discuss and explain the plan.
CHRISTIAN SCIENCE—
"Mortals and Immortals" will be the subject of the Sunday Lesson-Sermon in all branches of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston. This statement of Paul to the Romans is the Golden Text: "They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God."
A Bible selection for John's Gospel reads, "There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe . . . That was the True Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world . . . He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of New officers include Donna Sangster, president; Barbara Vander Heiden, vice-president; Betty Appley, secretary, and George Matouk, treasurer.

(2) This means that telephone facilities would have to be provided to avoid congestion on the pathways of communications.
(3) To permit subscriber dialing of extended service calls directly, equipment must be added in the central office to select the proper path for the individual call and see it to its destination.
(4) Therefore, the company must add to its telephone plant. It is estimated that this additional plant, irrespective of the conversion of the five non-dial offices to dial in Orange county, would cost the company about $933,000.
(5) Taxes, depreciation, interest, maintenance, etc., would cost approximately $139,000 a year on this added investment.
(6) On the other side of the ledger, the introduction of direct customer dialing would effect an estimated operating saving of $288,000 a year.
(7) Also, the thousands of toll Gospel reads. "There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe . . . That was the True Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world . . . He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God."
In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy says, "Mortals are not like immortals, created in God's own image; but infinite Spirit being all, mortal consciousness will at last yield to the scientific fact and disappear, and the real sense of being, perfect and forever intact, will appear."
