MAYOR PEARSON PROCLAIMS OPTIMIST CLUB WEEK HERE In a proclamation issued by Charles A. Pearson, Mayor of Anaheim, Optimist Week, November 6 to '13, was officially declared early this week. Commented the mayor, "It is gratifying to see that a group of business and professional leaders here in Anaheim have banded together for the purpose of rendering a real service to all of us in furtherance of their club slogan as a "Friend To The Boy." Walter Gooden, president of the local Optimist club, accepted the proclamation on behalf of his club. "Community recognition of our effort to improve our boys is a reward we are proud to receive," said president Gooden. "We will try to justify the mayor's praise, but more than that, serve this week of November 6 to 13, 1949, as Optimist Week in and for the City of Anaheim, and I further call upon all of the citizens of this community to join with this city government in such observance. Emma Hilgenfeld Called by Death Emma Amanda Hilgenfeld, 75, 618 South Claudina street, died Saturday afternoon at an Orange hospital after a prolonged illness. Funeral services were conducted at Hilgenfeld chapel Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock with the Rev. Frank E. Butterworth, pastor of White Temple Methodist church officiating. A native of Missouri, she had resided in southern California for the past six years and was a member of White Temple church of Anaheim. Surviving are her husband, William F. Hilgenfeld; two daughters, Martha M. Brooks of Mesa, Arizona, and Margaret C. Raides of Torrance; two sons, Arthur L. Hilgenfeld of Detroit, Michigan, and Howard N. Hilgenfeld of Henrietta, Texas; one sister, Mrs. Greta Wood of Los Angeles, and three grandchildren. During his life George Eastman, inventor and manufacturer of kodaks and supplies, spent more than 75 million dollars in philanthropic projects. Address Newly-elected Republican National Committee Chairman Guy George Gabrielson will make his first southern California speaking appearance since taking over his new post when he addresses a special Los Angeles Junior Chamber of Commerce luncheon gathering in the Biltmore Bowl, Wednesday, Nov. 16. Gabrielson, who was elected G.O.P. chairman Aug. 4 of this year, has been in Republican party circles since 1926, when he was a member of the New Jersey General Assembly.
