C. Chapman of the Los Angeles regional office. Approximately 3500 of these students received subsistence checks by October 1st, Chapman stated. By November 1st, it is expected that another 18,500 will be paid, and that the balance of the 35,000 will be paid by December 10th. Subsistence payments are based on evidence of enrollment submitted to the VA and processed by it prior to the cut-off date of the 25th of each month. Veterans are urged not to communicate with the VA about non-receipt of subsistence checks, as this will only delay the process of getting checks on the way to enrolled students.
