NOTICE OF THE PROPOSED FORMATION OF CYPRESS PARK, RECREATION AND PARKWAY DISTRICT IN THE COUNTY OF ORANGE, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Orange, State of California, has fixed Tuesday, the 13th day of September, 1949, at the hour of 11 o'clock A.M. of said day at the Chambers of the Board of Supervisors in the Court House in the City of Santa Ana, Orange County, California, as the time and place for hearing on the matter of the formation of a park, recreation and parkway district to be known and designated as "CYPPRESS PARK, RECREATION AND PARKWAY DISTRICT IN THE COUNTY OF ORANGE, STATE OF CALIFORNIA."
The territory proposed to be included in said District is bounded and described as follows, to-wit:

Beginning at the Northeast corner of Section 3, T. 4 S., R. 11 W., S. B. B. & M., said Northeast corner being the intersection of the center lines of those certain public highways commonly known as Orangethorpe Avenue and Hansen Street, and running thence from said point of beginning. Southerly, along the center line of Hansen Street to the center line of Ball Road; thence, Westerly, along the center line of Ball Road, to the center line of Holder Street; thence, Southerly, along the center line of Holder Street, to the Northeasterly line of Rancho Los Alamitos; thence, Northwestherly, along said Rancho line, to the one-quarter section line running North and South in Fractional Section 22, in said Rancho Los Alamitos; thence, Southerly, along one-quarter section lines, to the center of Section 27, said Township 4 South, Range 11 West, said center of Section 27 being an angle point in the exterior boundary line of Cypress School District, as now established; thence, Westerly and Northerly, following along the Southerly and Westerly boundary line of said Cypress School District, to the Westerly boundary line of Orange County; thence, Northerly, following along said Westerly boundary line of Orange County, to the center line of Orangethorpe Avenue; thence, Eastherly, along said center line of Orangethorpe Avenue, to the center line of Hansen Street and the point of beginning.
Notice is further given that any freeholder residing within the said proposed district may file with the Clerk of the Board of Supervisors written objections to the formation of such district at any time prior to the time fixed for the hearing thereof.

The Governor, back at his desk from vacation, decried the lobbying system in California and asserted that if the Legislature doesn't do something about it, the matter should be taken up by initiative of the people. Refused comment on whether he intends to run for Governor next year, but appeared surprised when asked for comment on Lieutenant-Governor Knight's statement that he intends to oppose Warren for the GOP nomination; opened the 90th annual California State Fair; attended a centennial celebration in Monterey, flew to San Diego for Labor Day and announced plans to go to St. Louis to attend American Bar Association convention.
The Courts: The U. S. Supreme Court held that not only can women wear high heeled shoes if they want to, but also, property owners are bound to protect them by keeping mats on floors that won't catch the heels and cause injuries.
Miscellaneous: The eyes of the State focused on Sacramento as the State Fair opened its gates for an eleven-day session, with the "biggest and finest" of California's agriculture, industry, and commerce on display. Officials said attendance figures were running ahead of last year.

Los Angeles Fair Studded With Varied Events
More than ever before the 1949 Los Angeles County Fair which opens in Pomona September 16 will be studded with colorful feature attractions and special events well calculated to please the varied tastes of the throngs of visitors.
The old time square dancers will come into their own in a real big way. Each Wednesday, Friday and Saturday evening a grand, massed hop will be staged on a 30,000 square foot arena. The dancers will be directed by the best callers in the southland and the public is invited to participate. In fact, prospective dancers are urged to come in costume.
The champion horseshoe pitcher of California will be decided in a tournament on the grounds. The cream of the talent of the state will gather on September 24 and 25 and again on October 1 and 2. The popular milkmaid contest is set for the afternoon of September 24 when the winner will be acclaimed the fastest milker in the southland.
200 Midwest Farmers
A distinct highlight of the 17-day program will be the visit of 200 midwest farmers on a radio sponsored tour of the coast. They will bring with them a champion Duroc hog for presentation to some 4-H Club member and will practically take over the grounds for the day. The party will be accompanied by state and county officers are bound to protect them by keeping mats on floors that won't catch the heels and cause injuries.

The Departments: Agriculture announced meetings in northeastern California for cattlemen which will be the first steps to stop rustling under new laws adopted by the 1949 legislature; aeronautics planned to get operators of crop dusting aircraft together to discuss a suggested code to govern the craft; employment said California's farm work for 1949 is rapidly approaching a peak with more than 500,000 people on the job harvesting crops.

A center of attraction in the domestic arts building will be a quilt containing 75,000 pieces. This is the world's record as far as has been ascertained to date.
Model Railroad
The Citrus Empire Model Railroad Club composed of adults will have a greatly enlarged exhibit in which their miniature trains will operate over 3000 feet of tracks in perfect replica of modern railroading. Herman Howard will also have his picturesque open air railway in operation and again it will be a center of attraction for young and old alike.
These are just a few of the countless attractions. As in past years, the million dollar livestock parade on the closing Sunday afternoon will serve as a fitting climax to the special features.

To Mr. and Mrs. William Stratton, 61376 Mission Road, Buena Park, at Fullerton Cottage hospital on September 4, 1949, a son, weighing 7-pounds, 10½-ounces, was born.

For the first time since the war the novel crochet speed contest will be brought back and already there are a large number of entries. In this the woman crocheting the longest piece of a designated pattern will be crowned the champion "Lady Nimble Fingers" of the southland.
Perhaps one of the most unusual exhibits ever to be shown at the fair will be the $1,500,000 collection of drinking vessels consisting of more than 600 works of art gathered from around the world. The vessels are of silver, bronze, leather, wood, horn, ivory, jade and other rare and unusual materials. Many are of great antiquity and include Oliver Cromwell's personal drinking cup.
Fashion Show
Popular demand has brought the return of the beautiful fashion show in the radio-television theater for the first nine afternoons and evenings. For the first time a tribute will be paid to the state's lumber industry in a display of native woods. This will be in the palace of agriculture. Also for the first time the amazing number of by-products of citrus fruits will be on display in a show of absorbing interest.
