SUNDAY EVENING Memories of that fateful day in 1945, the day of the explosion of the atomic bomb over Hiroshima, will be recalled by the Rev. Ki-yoshi Tanimoto, as guest speaker at a special service at White Temple Methodist church on Sunday evening, September 11, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Mr. Tanimoto, who is the pastor of the Methodist church in Hiroshima, is now in the process of rebuilding his parish. His church and other church houses were completely destroyed in the blast. Mr. Tanimoto was less than one mile from the center of impact of the bomb. He was badly injured and hundreds of people served by the Christian group in the city were killed or maimed for life. Even in the face of such disaster the pastor, with a handful of survivors, improvised a church and for months religious services were held in the open air, in the railroad yard and in other public places. From that small but brave start the church has grown until now there is a membership of more than 300. Mr. Tanimoto has been active with other Christians in widespread relief and rehabilitation service in his city, especially in the care of the more than 2000 children left parentless and homeless by the bomb. He has worked with LARA and other agencies in providing food for the most needy victims. He is visiting the United States as the guest of the Board of Missions and Church Expansion of the Methodist Church, filling many speaking engagements and studying church social work in this country with the idea of establishing like work in his home city upon his return there. Born in Japan, Mr. Tanimoto was educated in Methodist schools in his native land, and then came to the United States, receiving his arts and ministerial training at Emory University, Atlanta, Ga. Before returning to Japan in 1940, he was pastor of an independent Japanese Christian Church in Hollywood, California. The Comforter, ... whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. ... Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. ... These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full." Mary Baker Eddy writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures:" "If the disciple is advancing spiritually, he is striving to enter in.
