NAB ALBACORE
Thirty albacore were caught by several Anaheim fishermen who fished in waters south of Santa Catalina Island last Thursday. Jack pot honors went to Pete Wisser who brought to deck a 20-pounder. Among those aboard the charter craft out of Newport Beach were Nick Winger, Herb Carter, Sam Loard, Pete Wisser, H. H. Freese and his son Herman. Loard worked until the "wee hours" that night canning his respectable catch.
New Schedules For Del Mar Special Trains

The Governor, after a lengthy and extensive search, appointed Dr. Frank F. Tallman of Columbus, Ohio, to the post of State Director of Mental Hygiene in California; said he was in good shape on bill signing, and expects to have all bills taken care of by August 6, the 30 day after the legislature deadline; again rapped crime conditions in California, calling on the public and law enforcement officers to do all in their power to wipe out gangsterism; held several hearings on controversial bills, among them a measure allowing access roads through state parks; left Sacramento for a week-end in Santa Monica with his family.
The Departments: Employment said a plentiful supply of agricultural labor is on hand to harvest California mid-summer crops; Division of Fish and Game drew 500 names from 9,000 applications for the first antelope hunting season in six years; A. A. Brock, director of agriculture, asked secretary of agriculture Charles Brannan to do all possible to halt the crippling dock tieup in Hawaii, declaring that California canners are hard hit by the lack of pineapple for fruit cocktail and other canned products; Public Utilities Commission held Southern Pacific's rates for hauling cement to Shasta dam were not excessive and refused the government, which brought the action, a refund.
Miscellaneous: A cost of $21,-000,000 annually to the taxpayers of the state results from the state employee vacations, holidays and sick leave; new telephone rates in the Pacific Telephone and Telegraph area were announced when public utilities commission granted the concern another increase.
