Will Dedicate Model Railroad This Sunday Driving of the "golden spike" Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock will signal completion of the Cranston model railroad layout at 206 South Rose street, Anaheim. Between 15 and 20 locomotives and more than 150 cars are expected to participate in the dedication to which the public is cordially invited. To prevent duplication in layout name, the model spread created by Albert M. Cranston, vocal instructor, and his son, Eugene, has been registered with the National Railroad Society. Its official title is Pacific Eastern Lines. Sunday, July 17, the system comprising track, signal stations, towns and tunnels which took rail tycoon Cranston and his son a year and a half to construct, was given a trial test run. Famous model live steamers puffed around the 2000 feet of track. The nine track system circles the Cranston's 35 by 40 foot patio. Additional electric switches were added to run the steam locomotives which operate from an electrical engine within the fire box or cab. Prize Models Locomotives valued from $500 to $5000, a number of which participated in the trial run, are expected to be featured at the dedication ceremony this Sunday. Among those displayed here of Brand's locomotives is a Mohawk. A $500 Hudson locomotive owned by Cranston will puff around the local layout Sunday. Members of the Anaheim Model Railroad Society are busy preparing for the Orange county fair display and building tables to hold the society's railroad layout in the club rooms located in the basement of the Greek theater, Anaheim City park, Cranston said. The allocation represents the largest fund ever assigned by Pomona college to honor outstanding and worthy scholars who need financial assistance, according to president Lyon. The fund is derived from special endowments, contributions to the annual alumni fund, and allocations from the college budget. "With the decrease of veterans who have enjoyed the benefits of the G. I. Bill, the trustees of Pomona college have assigned this fund to meet the increasing need for financial assistance on the part of the student body," president Lyon explained.
