AUHS Instructor Joins El Camino College Faculty Expressing regret, the resignation of Clarence H. Vetterli, Anaheim Union high school journalism and business English instructor was accepted by the high school board during its regular meeting Wednesday night of last week. Vetterli who served on the local high school faculty last year accepted a position with El Camino college where beginning this fall he will instruct journalism and photography. Construction on the jaysee located ten miles south of Inglewood inland from Manhattan beach commenced in 1946. A huge stadium is now being built. This year the college expects an enrollment of some 3,000 students. Vetterli said. In the near future the former local teacher expects to move from his home 707 Heliotrope, Corona del Mar to a residence near El Camino college. He lives with his wife and young daughters 2 and 4 years old. California Last Week (Western News Service) The governor, faced with 540 more bills to sign or pocket veto by August 6, took time out to deliver some caustic remarks on the crime situation in California, particularly with regard to the shooting of Mickey Cohen in Los Angeles. He declared the shooting was nothing but organized gang warfare, that the good name of California was besmirched by such activities; that the huge profits from gambling, slot machines, narcotics, bookmaking and white slavery indicated a symptom of conditions that are developing in the state. DON'T FAIL TO LOOK AT THE BARGAINS IN USED CARS LISTED HERE By August 6, took time out to deliver some caustic remarks on the crime situation in California, particularly with regard to the shooting of Mickey Cohen in Los Angeles. He declared the shooting was nothing but organized gang warfare, that the good name of California was besmirched by such activities; that the huge profits from gambling, slot machines, narcotics, bookmaking and white slavery indicated a symptom of conditions that are developing in the state. In his comment, he put in a good many plugs for his special commission on organized crime, which was hotly debated in the legislature, declaring that he believed the most important victory for the people of the state was when the legislature decided to retain the commission. The Departments: Board of Equalization found it had the problem of wholesale licenses held by chain stores back in its lap, due to the fact the legislature passed no law to regulate establishments selling to their own stores only; Fish and Game prepared for a drawing for hunters to take 500 antelope; Highway Commission made additional allocations from road work throughout the state and heard protests on freeways from San Diego and Petaluma. Miscellaneous: Secretary of State Frank M. Jordan announced that eleven and possibly twelve measures would be on the November 8 special election ballot, including the $250,000,000 'school band issue, repeal of Proposition No. 4, and increases in pay for legislators, with a probably initiative for daylight saving time. Olemargarine manufacturers, ready to cash in on colored oleo October 1, have had lables approved by the Department of Agriculture. Striped bass fishing has been fair during the past week along the Mare Island Straits in Napa county. A good number of small fish have been taken.
