PITY THE POOR MAILMAN—Pretty Maureen O'Sullivan of Laguna Beach is shown with some of the 5000 Premium List booklets being mailed and distributed to prospective exhibitors at coming 1949 Orange County Fair being staged near Santa Ana, Aug. 18-21, inclusive. The booklets, which are being given free distribution, contain complete information on exhibits. More than $36,000 will be offered exhibitors in wide variety of classifications and a cordial invitation is being extended Southland residents to enter displays.

Issue Red Cross Swim Awards
Additional Red Cross swimming certificates were awarded to aquatic pupils this week who completed courses taught by Mrs. Mary H. Pendleton, Water Safety instructor, at the City Park Plunge, and by Irwin North, Jr., Red Cross Water Safety instructor, at the Anaheim Union high school plunge.
The certificates, each listing the varied requirements in the course, were issued from the Anaheim chapter of the American Red Cross.
Intermediate, Swimmer and functional swimmer tests were conducted at the high school pool while beginners were instructed at the city park plunge.
The intermediate requirements were met by Mary Cone. Sherryld David, Michael Davis, Rita Flynn, Jean Foster, Robert Loutsau, Glenda Mungerson, Shirley Pannier, Carlyn Schaid, Peggy Sterba, Ann Story, Tommy Terry, Ann Williams, Jean Williams and Weston Warwick.
Swimmer certificates went to Mary Cone. Miriam Congdon, Don, John and Peggy Kohlenberger.
Kathleen Brunet and Anna Lou Daly were awarded the functional swimmer certificate, new water safety course to be offered by the Red Cross. Function swimming requirements must be completed as follows.
1. A 200 yard continuous swim, fully clothed, employing breast or side stroke.
2. Remain afloat, fully clothed in deep water 10 minutes, without interruption by swimming, floating and treading water.
3. A 50 yard swim on back, fully clothed, 15 yards.
4. Disrobe in deep water and remain afloat for five minutes.
5. Make a 20 yard carry of a person of equal weight, both rescuer and victim fully clothed.

Enjoy Anaheim Patio Supper
An attractive serve-a-dish supper was enjoyed by members of the Past Chief's club of the Pythian Sisters, recently in the patio at the home of Mrs. Lillian Davis of Anaheim.
Joining Mrs. Davis in hostess duties were Clara Burns, Helen Whitman and Nellie Reinert.
Games were played following a short business session conducted by Mary Kitchen, with prizes going to Grace Lienberger, Bertha Trickey, Mary Kitchen, Antoinette Forney, Emma Cochens, Emma Peterman, Yvette Shedden and Edna Dianoma.
Members will meet in August at the home of Mrs. Shedden in Newport Beach, it was announced.

Headed by President Gooden a group of local Optimists attended the Charter presentation of the Five Points Optimist club. The dinner party was held in the Pasadena Athletic club recently.
For apprehending a bad check artist, Frank Doretti was given the honorary title of "Sheriff."
Summer Fair To Be Staged In Buena Park
A Summer Community Fair with rides, concessions, music and all the trimmings will be held at Buena Park, July 28, 29 and 30 at the corner of Commonwealth and Grand avenues.
Concessions sponsored by church and civic organizations will be selling food and soft drinks, while others will feature games and carnival entertainment.
The latest developments in commercial products will be demonstrated in booths sponsored by merchants in the area.
The Ritter's United Shows has been engaged for the Fair and will be set up on July 27 through 31.
ENJOY VACATION
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Harrison of Los Angeles and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Spray and two children, Henry and Rio, of La Canada, enjoyed a three-day mountain vacation recently. Mr. Harrison is associated with Lee Trading Company, this city.
