Farm Advisor Reports On Eastern Trip
The unusual drouth of the eastern states will reduce crop production and returns by millions of dollars according to Farm Advisor, Harold E. Wahlberg, who has just returned from a vacation trip through the New England States, New York and Washington, D.C. The intensive vegetable growing areas of New Jersey will suffer a drouth loss of over $50,000,000 according to farm contacts he made in that state.
In Washington, D.C., the farm advisor conferred with Congressman John Phillips and attended a Senate agricultural committee hearing on the Brannam Bill which has been the target of criticism by several farm organizations in recent weeks. Dr. H. G. Black, economist of Harvard University, was one of the principal witnesses at the hearing.
The bill proposes to pay subsidies to farmers when the prices of their commodities fall below certain parity prices. In turn, the lower prices on the competitive market will provide cheaper food for the consumer.
The farm advisor conferred with Secretary of Agriculture, Charles Brannan and also with Extension Director, M. L. Wilson, who presented Wahlberg a United States Department of Agriculture service certificate in recognition of his thirty-one years continuous service for the department in Orange county.

The Orange county agent spent several days with the Agriculture Department in Washington and the Federal Research Station at Beltsville, Maryland.
He and Mrs. Wahlberg were delegates to the International Congregational Council held at Wellesley College near Boston. Mrs. Wahlberg visited with relatives and friends there, the scene of her early years before coming to California.
