It's natural to assume that you high school graduates are enjoying your summer vacation with an extra zest this year. High school graduation is a mighty important stepping-stone to your entire future, and you've every right to feel mighty proud.
Speaking of stepping-stones, it's only natural, too, that whatever you may be doing this summer, you're giving a good deal of serious thought to the next move you'll want to make to guarantee the success of that future. That's why we cordially invite you to investigate the technical training opportunities offered by the peace-time Army and Air Force. They can prepare you for a career in such fields as electronic, chemistry, missiles, engineering or aeronautics; practically any skill in which you wish to become proficient is available to you in these two fine services.
Today the Army and Air Force have raised their entrance standards to a point where only the highest type of applicants can be considered for acceptance. The competition for enlistment is actually keener than at any time in history. Therefore, as a man with a high school education, we think you'll be interested in learning how you can qualify for this exceptional training yourself.
We'll be glad to explain to you personally just how much you stand to gain from an Army or Air Force.

It will be a pleasure to meet you whenever you find it convenient to drop in at my recruiting station here in Anaheim at 128 South Los Angeles Street. The telephone number is Anaheim 3688. By the way, the Army has again opened their two-year enlistment.
Just because I don't mention it every week, many of you fellows forget the Air Force Aviation Cadets are still open and looking for qualified men to become pilots—at government expense. Yes, if you are 20 to 26½ years old, married or unmarried, physically fit, and have two years of college or can pass an equivalent exam, you have the main qualifications for Aviation Cadets. You know, the Cadets are trained down in Texas, where they get a chance to learn just about all there is to flying, and after a year's training, become the pilots that push the jet bombers around for Uncle Sam. It pays well, and the training couldn't be duplicated for thousands of dollars. They give you food, room, clothing and pay, and when you graduate you become a second lieutenant, drawing over three hundred dollars a month—which ain't hay. Drop in to my office here in Anaheim for your application blank.
NEW DAUGHTER
A baby daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Ora Brougher, 10416 Katella road, Anaheim, Monday, in the Fullerton General hospital.
A combined total of 6,848,000 acres are now devoted to important field crops, a figure four per cent above the 1948 record of 6,575,000 and 22 per cent above the 10 year average.
According to the report, growing conditions in general have been favorable with this year's averages of cotton, barley, and rice the largest on record and with increases recorded in wheat, alfalfa, and grain hay over last year's recorded acreage. A decline in acreage was noted in oats, flaxseeds, grain sorghums, beans, potatoes, and sugar beets.
