Search For Fair Queen The approximately 25 cities and communities of Orange county are each being invited to select a candidate to compete in the Beauty Contest to be staged at the fair grounds on the opening day of the 1949 Orange County Fair, August 18, for the selection of the 1949 Queen of the Fair. Chambers of Commerce or similar civic organizations in each city or community are being asked to cooperate, along with the local newspapers and radio stations in the preliminary elimination contests. W. H. Gallienne of Huntington Beach, secretary of the associated chambers of commerce of Orange county, who is chairman of the entertainment committee for 1949 Orange County Fair, is handling the details of the Queen contest. Single girls between the ages of 16 and 22 years will be eligible to enter the Queen contest. Any girl who meets these qualifications may compete by simply filling out an entry blank, available at all local chambers of commerce offices and agreeing to appear for the preliminary elimination contest to be staged in her home town or community and at the final contest on the opening day of the fair. The selected Queen and her Court will be guests of honor during the 4 days of the fair, appearing at several social functions and will receive wide publicity throughout southern California. When pressing velveteen or corduroy garments, place a bath towel under the part to be steamed. Dampen slightly and press on the wrong side with an iron. The nap will have a fresh, steam-cleaned look. Law Forbidding Rebates Signed By Governor Sacramento, (WNS)—The practice of giving rebates and commissions for referring clients is prohibited under a new law signed by Governor Earl Warren. The measure applies to all persons licensed under the healing arts, and is the result of investigations involving the alleged widespread practice of giving rebates. Violation of the act constitutes unprofessional conduct, and grounds for suspension or revocation of a license, according to the bill, which was sponsored by Senator Hugh M. Burns of Fresno.
