Employment Office Places 240 in Jobs; 878 Apply Sacramento (WNS) — Placements of workers in joos in the Santa Ana Department of Employment office during May totaled 240, according to a report made by the department today. During the same month, the office received 878 new applications for work. The placements were in occupations other than agricultural work, the report said, with 63 placements made during the month in this field. The office handled 4700 unemployment insurance and services readjustment allowances during the month. DON'T FAIL TO LOOK AT THE BARGAINS LISTED HERE Sacramento (WNS) — Enabling legislation allowing the Orange County Water District to purchase water from the Los Angeles Metropolitan Water District, transfer it to the Santa Ana River and percolate it into underground storage has passed the state assembly. This is the final legislative action on the bill by Senator Clyde Watson, Orange.' It now goes to the governor's desk for signature. One feature of the Watson bill allows the Orange Water District to exclude any property from the district which holds a duel membership in both the Orange district and the Metropolitan district. According to sponsors of the bill this allows certain property owners to escape double taxation on the same amount of water. However, to finance the purchase of water, the district directors have asked for and received from the legislature, the right to up taxes on district members from .05 to .15 cents per $100 of assessed valuation.
