Heuler Takes Speech Award For his discussion of the proposed transit system direct to Los Angeles, Ken Heuler won the Paterson trophy at the regular dinner-session of the Anaheim Toastmasters club, Monday evening at La Palma Grill. Heuler's six and one-half minute speech was entitled "Call That Boat Back." Optimist trophy honors went to Ed Wright for his 11 minute presentation of "Security." Vic Huber, presiding president, announced that an executive officers meeting will be held tomorrow (Friday) night at 7:30 o'clock at his home, 120 North Clementine, Apartment 8. Quenton Ressler, who presented his autobiography in 11 minutes before the group, was inducted into the Toastmaster club by Louis Taylor. The invocation opening the program, was given by Earl E. Smith. Page Vincent, table topic master gave for round table discussion the subject "Emotional Maturity or Academic Security?" The two alternatives received a thorough mixing. As Toastmaster of the evening, Taylor introduced the speakers. "Planting a Garden" was described by Marion Pickel for six minutes. Earl Smith was evaluator; Charles Holiday, grammarian, and Don Butka, timekeeper. Next week's assignments are as follows: Toastmaster, Al Holve; table topic master, Fred Rusch; evaluator, Ed Wright; grammarian, Marion Pickel; timekeeper, Quenton Ressler, and speakers, John Knutzen, C. J. Stillson, Page Vincent and Don Butka. Anaheim Polio Victim Dies Mrs. Pamela R. Van Buren Dondero, 24, former resident of this city, died June 15, Wednesday of last week in Children's Hospital, San Francisco, of a heart attack, after suffering from polio since last fall. A native of Los Angeles, she had lived in Anaheim since a small child. She was confined to an iron lung for the past nine months. The deceased was the widow of Donald Dondera who died from polio last September. The couple had spent a vacation at Huntington Beach and shortly after became ill while in Jamestown. Mrs. Dondero was a graduate of Anaheim Union high school, class of 1942, and a member of St. Michael's Episcopal church. Surviving are a daughter, Robyn Lee, 1½; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer E. Van Buren of Oceanside; a sister, Mrs. Kay Fisher of Anaheim, and her grandmother, Mrs. E. S. Wood of Oceanside. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at St. Michael's Episcopal church, with the Rev. John Kimball Saville, officiating. Interment was in Anaheim cemetery with Backs, Campbell and Kaulbars mortuary in charge. Mrs. Alice Searle, Mother of Local Woman, Passes Mrs. Alice Searle, mother of Mrs. Eloise Horn of this city, passed away at her home at 9414 West Olympic Blvd., Beverly Hills, last Monday, June 20, after a prolonged illness. Born in Missouri 83 years ago, she came to California 12 years ago, residing in the Beverly Hills and Glendale areas. Left to mourn her passing are her husband, E. M. Searle of the home; two daughters, Mrs. L'Marie Hall of Beverly Hills and Mrs. Horn of this city; two sons, R. E. Searle of Nebraska, and E. L. Searle of Glendale; four grandchildren and one great granddaughter. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the mortuary chapel of Pierce Brothers in Beverly Hills with the Rev. John Kimball Saville, pastor of St. Michael's Episcopal church of this city, officiating.
