Warn Against 'Adoption' Of Orphan Fawns
San Francisco, June 16.—California vacationers and apparently abandoned fawns are combining to give wardens of the Division of Fish and Game their annual Summer headache.
The irresistible appeal of "orphan" baby deer each year brings out a rash of improptu adoptions in violation of the Fish and Game Code, wardens report.
Aside from the illegal aspect, there's usually more trouble in store for well-meaning citizens when the fawn loses its baby charm and approaches surly maturity. Many serious injuries have been chalked up by ungrateful deer in captivity.
But most important, say those who know, is the fact that a fawn is seldom far away from the watchful eyes of its mother. Would-be woodland social workers are actually breaking up a happy family in almost every case.
One warden puts it this way: "We're tired of playing nursemaid to confiscated fawns. Arrests and convictions will be made for possession of deer out of season or fawns at any time."

Anaheim Sailor In 'Operation Moving Van'
John C. Nevin, chief teleman, USN, husband of Mrs. Grace Nevin of 815 South Philadelphia street, Anaheim, California, recently participated in "Operation Moving Van" as a crew member aboard the aircraft carrier USS Valley Forge.
The flight and hangar decks of the large carrier were used to transport the Staff Headquarters men, equipment and office files, of the Commander, Air-Force, Pacific Fleet, and two other units from Pearl Harbor, T. H., to San Diego, California.
"Operation Moving Van" was unique in that Vice Admiral H. B. Sallada and his staff continued to carry out command functions and operations during the move by setting up temporary offices in every available nook of the ship.
This shifting of units is part of the Navy's current efforts to cut-down operating expenses throughout the fleet.
