Anaheim Lions At Convention Delegates of the Anaheim Lions club attended the District 4-E Lions convention held Friday through Sunday morning at San Diego. More than 1000 Lions signed the register. Saturday evening Warren Ashleigh as zone chairman, and his wife were honored guests of Perry Metcalf of San Diego, district governor, at the cabinet dinner and entertainment program for zone chairmen. Leavitt Ford, outgoing president of the local club, Gus Schmelzer and Vic LaMont attended the conclave from Friday to Saturday afternoon. A color film illustrating late model jet propulsion airplanes was shown during the regular Friday noon luncheon meeting at the Elks club, courtesy of El Toro Marine Base. Two members were elected to the local board of directors to serve terms of two years each, namely, Dick Glover and Stanley Whieldon. Friday's Program Specimens from the Cypress zoo and snake farm will be on display at tomorrow (Friday) noon's meeting, according to Joe Critchfield, program chairman of the day. Former owner of the zoo, Grace Wiley, was fatally bitten by a pet cobra. As incoming president, Critchfield will be installed during the last luncheon meeting of the service club in June. He will begin his presidential duties at the first July meeting. Change Off-Sale Hours for Package Liquor Stores Sacramento, (WNS)—Changes in the off sale hours for packaged liquor stores were approved today by the state assembly. A bill sponsored by Los Angeles assemblyman Lester McMillan will change the legal closing hour from 2 a.m. to 8 p.m. with the exception of Saturday night when closing hours will be extended to 12 midnight. The bill does not apply to beer and wine sales and has the approval of the entire packaged sale industry, McMillan said. Will Outlaw Ban On Mixed Weddings Sacramento, (WNS)—State law is being made to conform with a recent decision of the Supreme Court outlawing the ban on marriages between whites and non-whites, according to provisions of a bill passed by the state assembly. Authors of the measure are assemblymen Robert Condon, Walnut Creek, Augustus Hawkins, Los Angeles, Byron Rumford, Berkeley, and George Collins, San Francisco. The largest flower known weighs 15 pounds. LICENSE TO WED A marriage license was issued to Ruben Campos Hernandez at 1130 North Perry street, San Ana, and Helen Alcala of East Adele street, Anaheim, last week at the county courthouse in Santa Ana. Grain Growers Plan Field Day Grain growers of the county and others interested are invited to attend a field inspection tour on Friday, May 27. The program for this day is under the auspices of the Agricultural Extension Service and cooperating growers, said W. M. Cory, assistant farm advisor. The growers will assemble at the grain variety plots at 9:30 a.m. on Harbor Blvd., north of Costa Mesita. The plots are located on the Coast Junior College grounds. A second plot on the Irvine Ranch will also be seen. This event serves as an annual get-together of grain growers to observe the performance of new strains and to discuss management practices and other problems pertaining to the industry.
