Imagine the finest training in the world, free—to you! That's what the United States Army technical schools offer! You are eligible to choose one of these schools when you enlist in the army at the completion of your high school education!
Graduation time is near! It's time for young men to act toward their futures. There can be no finer career than a service career!
Today, quality is the U.S. Army keynote. More than ever before in its history, it's offering young men, high school graduates, the opportunity to take advantage of its many technical schools.
These schools offer courses with interests in mechanics, construction, crafts, electrical and radio, scientific, medical and technical problems, clerical and computational; precision tool as well as military science and tactics.
Men with hobbies can turn them into profitable futures by applying for and signing up for any of these courses for which they feel most suited. Following basic training, men will be assigned those schools for which they have qualified.
Located in the finest Army centers these schools include the Armored School at Fort Knox, Kentucky; the Artillery School at Fort Sill, Oklahoma; the Seacoast Branch at Fort Winfield Scott, San Francisco; the Anti-Aircraft and Guided Missile Branch, Fort Bliss, Texas; the Engineer School, Fort Belvoir, Virginia; the Ordnance School, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland; the Transportation School, Fort Fulton, Virginia.

It's the chance of a lifetime to see your own country while learning, travel while earning; this great modern peacetime Army affords you men between 17 and 35 with high school education an opportunity to gain when you train!
The local Anaheim men who enlisted in the Army and Air Force the other day were Edward M. Pittser of 940 E. Sycamore street, who chose the Army and will be assigned as a heavy equipment driver.
The other enlistee was Salvador Prado of 232½ E. Sycamore street, who chose the Air Force as his career field. He will take his basic training at Lackland Airbase in San Antonio, Texas.
Douglas K. Burdick who enlisted in the Air Force a few months ago, paid me a visit the other day and is home on furlough. He is a former Navy man having served all through the war in that branch of the service. He recently took a short discharge and reenlisted for an indefinite period as he intends to make the Air Force his career.
Douglas told me that when he reports back from furlough, he will be assigned to the Airbase at Moses Lake, in the state of Washington. He is in the heart of the best trout fishing country and says the boys up there get in a lot of fishing time.

Cash Excess in General Fund Shows Decrease
Sacramento, May 26 (WNS)—While the state of California isn't exactly broke, cash in the general fund decreased $14,486,609 during April, Thomas H. Kuchel, state controller, announced today.
The cash excess over current obligations April 30 amounted to $69,277,538, as compared with an excess of $81,764,208 at the end of the preceding month, and $178,-910,932 on the same date last year.
State revenues, however, are increasing, Kuchel said. For the first ten months of the current fiscal year, the revenues totaled $412,-463,056, an increase of six per cent over the same period for the preceding fiscal year.
However, expenditures are increasing too; the controller said, with a jump of 49 per cent in general fund outlay for the first ten months of this fiscal year compared to last.
In certain primitive tribes, killing a dog is considered as bad as murder.
