Rev. Neumann Dedicates New Baptist Church
The Rev. P. G. Neumann, pastor of the Bethel Baptist church of Anaheim, gave the dedicatorial speech when the first unit of the First Baptist church of Costa Mesa, Santa Ana and Magnolia streets, that city, was dedicated Sunday afternoon, May 8.

Legion Auxiliary Poppy Day Set For May 26-27
As has been the custom in past years, members of the American Legion Auxiliary Anaheim Unit No. 72 will give of their time for this cause on May 26 and 27, Poppy Day in Anaheim, according to Mrs. Marion Fennell, poppy chairman. Official announcement of this event was made at the meeting of the auxiliary held last Tuesday evening.
Shipment of the little red crepe paper poppies, 2250 of them, have arrived from Sawtelle Veterans hospital in West Los Angeles, and will be sold by members of this organization. These poppies are an exact replica of the wild poppies which grew "between the crosses row upon row" in the cemeteries of France and Belgium during World War I. They are now the memorial flower of the American Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Each of these little flowers are made by hand by the disabled veterans in hospitals and workshops for which they receive three cents, with all materials used in the making furnished by the auxiliary. The work of making these flowers not only provides a little revenue for the disabled veteran but also aids the occupational therapy program and is instrumental in their recovery by giving them a definite program while confined to the hospitals.
A corps of volunteer workers of the auxiliary will be on the streets early Thursday, May 26 to distribute the poppies and receive in return, a voluntary contribution.

Thomas E. Dewey said, “For all (the) confusion (today) there is a remedy. It is an old, old remedy which the ministers of our great religions have preached to us for centuries.’ Did we but listen and carry out the teachings of that message literally our problems would be solved.”
Sam C. Ford of Montana said, “There is no doubt in my mind that the spiritual and worshipful approach offers the only true solution to the apparently insoluble world problems of today.”

Our Preacher Says
If habitually you see the unlovely, the ignoble, the faults, the evil in the lives of others, you are endangering the stability of your own character. You become like what you feed upon. A safe practice is that of finding the good in others rather than dwelling only on their imperfections. When you detect failings in those about you, it is your responsibility to help them overcome them. But be sure that your own life is free from the flaws you see in others.

CHRISTIAN SCIENCE
"The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light." This declaration from Matthew's Gospel will be the Golden Text of the Sunday Lesson-Sermon on "Soul and Body" in all branches of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston.
A Scriptural selection from Job reads "Is not God in the height of heaven? ... Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace: thereby good shall come unto thee. Receive, I pray thee, the law from his mouth and lay up his words in thine heart. If thou return to the Almighty, thou shalt be built up, thou shalt put away iniquity far from thy tabernacles... For then shalt thou have thy delight in the Almighty, and shalt lift up thy face unto God."
Mary Baker Eddy writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures": "Christian Science brings to the body the sunlight of Truth, which invigorates and purifies. Christian Science acts as an alterative, neutralizing error with Truth... The effect of this Science is to stir the human mind to a change of base, on which it may yield to the harmony of the divine Mind."

Senate to Probe Into Activities of Prop. 4 Promoter
Sacramento (WNS)—A senate probe into the activities of George McLain in connection with the State Department of Social Welfare as indicated here this week following a senate rules committee meeting.
McLain is the head of the citizens committee for old age pensions and the promoter of the liberalized pension plan adopted last November as Proposition No. 4.
The committee requested Earl G. Waters, Sacramento bureau manager of Western News Service, to appear and testify as to McLain's activities.
In an exclusive story last week, Waters charged McLain with actual direction of the policy and activities of the state department with which he has no official status.
He further charged McLain with appropriating a state owned automobile for his use with a high state official acting as his chauffeur.
Following the request of the committee Waters stated he will be pleased to appear and enlarge upon the information used in his story but would refuse to disclose the sources of his information.

"The low purchasing power of the dollar, coupled with inadequacy of compensation rates for our disabled veterans," Mallonee states, "has placed an additional burden upon the rehabilitation and service program of the overseas veterans' organization. Likewise, the abolition of the force of field contact men of the Veterans Administration has augmented greatly the service job of V.F.W. Posts throughout the nation."
The V.F.W. Commander explained that approximately two-thirds of the Buddy Poppy proceeds is used to give direct aid to all disabled and needy veterans. The money also aids the dependents and survivors of veterans who do not have the means to maintain a healthy standard of living or who need funds to meet an emergency. The Post Service officer, John Jaggers, is available at all times to aid veterans with whatever problems they may present.
On the national scale, the Buddy Poppy proceeds are used to help maintain the V.F.W. National Rehabilitation Service which handles hundreds of thousands of claims presented to the Veterans Administration, on behalf of veterans, their dependents; and in part, to maintain the V.F.W. National Home for war orphans and widows at Eaton Rapids, Michigan. The latter is a service begun on a Michigan farm nearly a quarter century ago, and has since grown into the only home of its kind in the world. The National Home is now a "town" in its own right.

The Buddy Poppies will go on sale in Anaheim on the morning of May 26 and will continue until May 28, or until the supply is exhausted. There is no set price for the poppies.
