GIRL SCOUT NEWS
CAMPAIGN ENDS
Climaxing a school-wide campaign for coupons, Horace Mann Brownie Troop 2 this week presented 65 teaspoons to the P.T.A. Mrs. George Thiessen is the leader of this enterprising group of second graders, ably assisted by Mrs. Jerry Dolan, with Mrs. Albert Flint as troop committee chairman. The kindergarten class received a special treat for collecting the largest percentage of the 1500 coupons turned in.
A Mother’s Day tea at the church bungalow was given by girls from Zion Lutheran Troop 31, highlighted by a Court of Awards for the year. Corsages made by the girls consisting of sweet peas and carnations were given each mother, carrying out the pink and white theme used in table decorations. Presiding at the tea table were Mrs. Walter Knigge, wife of the principal, and Mrs. Paul Lohr.
A majorette solo by Nancy Morales opened the program, followed by poems by Roberta Claypool, a piano solo by Dorothy Fluegge, a song, “Mother,” accompanist Kathleen Cordes, and a play, “What Is a Girl Scout,” written by Susan Himmerich.
Awards Presented
Awards were given each girl by Miss Dorothy Bowe, who talked briefly on the significance of the different badges. Sally Cordes recognized second grade awarding of fly-up pins by Miss Bowe who spoke to the of the transition from Brownies to regular Girl Scouting. A program of recitations and piano numbers was followed by refreshments served by Mrs. A. N. Miller, leader, and Mrs. J. Bovee and Mrs. Forrest Price, assistants. Newest intermediates are Dorothy Bovee, Virginia Caballero, Maxine Duran, Socarra Garcia, Mildred Hernandez, Helen Hoxie, Patricia Kuentz, Loretta Kliever, Helen Miller, Helen Munos, Margaret Olvera, Kay Lynn Price, Kay Sharon Rennie, and Rosie Veyna. These same girls enjoyed a trip to Knott’s Berry farm this week, repeating one of their most popular tours of last year.
Group Meeting
Saturday the second and third grade Brownies of Horace Mann, Zion Lutheran, Lincoln, Cypress, Savanna, St. Boniface, Broadway, Benjamin Franklin, George Washington and Loara enjoyed a picnic at La Palma park with 238 leaders and girls participating. Each girl wore a trefoil with her name on it to help in getting acquainted as they played games in groups of 25. After lunch at long tables decorated in orange or pink, a story hour was enjoyed, and then more games and a special ice cream treat.

Langer, Mrs. Agnes Dolan, Mrs. Edith Flint, Mrs. A. Schnoor, Mrs. J. Siewerd, Phyllis Woodrome, Jeane Dargatz, Laura Schultz, Irene Johnson, Georgia Wlaschin, Esther Torrence, Blanche Bakker,
Ann Fischle, a plano solo; Linda Cheatum, a reading; Edith Bulley gave a vocal solo to complete the program.
Troop leaders participating were Mrs. Ray Cheatum, Mrs. F. E. Smenton, Mrs. F. Elliott, Mrs. Haunt Fisher, Mrs. Richard Fischel and Mrs. H. Schafer.
Mothers of troop members enjoy the tea were Mrs. J. Daugherty, Mrs. Elvy Hemkeen, Mrs. Robert Bullen, Mrs. Wick, Mrs. George Dierberger, Mrs. W. Cantrell, Mrs. H. J. Merill, Mrs. G. O. Guss, Mrs. A. Felix Mrs., H. W. Cordes, Mrs. Richard Ryan, Mrs. Woody Barnett, Mr T. W. Atkinson, Mrs. C. S. Lockhart, Mrs. Hazel Crain and Mr Cecile Smith.
Members of Troop 37 are Lucy Fischle, Carol Hemken, Jayne Lockhart, Dianna Merrill, Gloria Oropeza, Mary Provencio, Carole Ryan, Allene Schafer, Glenda Smonton, Rosie Villafano, Betty Wick, Donna Wright. Troop 3 members are Carol Ausburn Louella Baker, Brenda Barnet,Pats Briggs, Edith Bullen Janice Cantrell,Linda Cheatum,Carlotta Crain,Barbara Dierberger,Virle Elliott,Raquel Feliz,Nancy Fisher,Glenda Gray and Nancy Gussie.

Mrs. W. J. Troutman and Mrs. Henry Meger are leaders of this troop which consists of girls from the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grades. Hostesses were Mrs. Dave Dick, Mrs. Dillard Wilkinson, Mrs. Clarence Newkirk and Mrs. Ray Miller.
St. Bonlface Troop 7
A moonlight hike, marshmallow roast and a hike to Rabbit Lake featured an overnite at Lemon Heights for girls from St. Bonlface Troop 7, accompanied by their leader, Mrs. J. F. Dutzi. Rose Marie Simons, Louise Gallagher, Carol Truxaw, Marion Caracausa, Helen Packer, Mary Flynn, Carol Muckenthaler and Nancy Dutzi enjoyed the excursion.
George Washington Troop 27 presented pot holders to their mothers at a special tea recently. Mothers present enjoyed the story hour was enjoyed and then more games and a special ice cream treat.

Birthday Party
Celebrating the birthday of her daughter Anne, Mrs. Melva Williams took a decorated cake and ice cream to the meeting of Troop 26 of Katella which meets in Powell's barn. Special guests in addition to Mrs. Williams were Martha Cuthbert and Jeanne Williams. Mrs. Wm. Cuthbert is leader assisted by Mrs. George Reed and Mrs. Ed Powell. After the party girls went to the Women's Relief Corps in Fullerton where they were presented with an American flag. Sue Ann Powell is reporter for this troop's activities with membership consisting of Sharon Lee Bell, Sally Cuthbert, Martha Ann Fraas, Dorothy Giles Deane Mitobe, Sally Olding Susan Reed and Anne Williams.
Joint Meeting
Joining with Troop 38 of Benjamin Franklin, Troop 37 Brownies held a combined Mother's Tea recently. This is the first joint meeting of the two fourth grade troops since their division in the fall. Special guests were the two fourth grade teachers, Mrs. Clara Harmon and Miss Lois Spratt. Gifts of a pair of pictures made by the Brownies were presented to their mothers following which refreshments were served on the lawn at the Girl Scout house.

Troop 23 under the leadership of Mrs. Walter Taylor and Mrs. Archie Henry held their Mother's Day tea at the Scout House, featuring an old-fashioned style show, program and refreshments. Members did their own planning and were divided into committees to make arrangements.
Glenda Smith as mistress of ceremonies conducted the flag salute and presented the program. Diane Coons extended welcome to the mothers, followed by a piano solo by Dorothy Thomas, "Curious Story;" a song, "Love's Debt to Mother," by Lois Swint, accompanied by Dorothy Thomas. "Yesterday and Today," the skit featuring an old-fashioned gym suit, hiking clothes, sleeping wear, and mother as contrasted to the same in modern times was given by Sandra Sangster, Roxana Fischle, Gloria Taylor, Bette Van Delden, Glenda Smith, Joan Peacock, Bonne Van Delden and Patricia Roberts.
First class badge was earned by Diane Coons, Kathleen Henry, Patricia Roberts, Sandra Sangster, Glenda Smith, Gloria Taylor, Bette and Bonne Van Delden, Roxanna Fischle and Jan Critchfield.

Antiques Show May 24 Thru 28 In Los Angeles
Valued at more than $9 million, approximately 100,000 items will be on display at the 4th annual Pacific Coast Antiques Show scheduled for the Pan-Pacific May 24th through the 28th.
Officials of the show revealed yesterday the record number of antiques and heirlooms to be in the show.
The event has grown in stature and importance every year since its inception and the 1949 edition is destined to surpass its predecessors, say show sponsors.
