Polio Cases Now Total 299 for Year Infantile paralysis refused to give ground during the week ending March 12, and new cases reported during that period were far above normal for this time of year, the state department of health reported today. The department said six counties had reported 13 new cases during the week, two more than in the preceding week, and raising the total since January 1 to 299 new polio cases. Los Angeles county reported five, three in Los Angeles city, one in Santa Monica and another in Pasadena. Alameda county reported two in Berkeley, Contra Costa county two in Richmond and one in El Cerrito, while the others were listed as one each in Placerville, San Francisco, and Modesto. Measles continued to sweep the state, there being 3,570 cases reported during the same week, Los Angeles and Sacramento counties being hardest hit. Los Angeles had 575 new cases and Sacramento 417. Also reported were 2,066 cases of chicken-pox and 1,247 of mumps. The department said no cases of the virulent type of influenza were reported during the week. Fred Bellingslea Dies at Hospital Fred Bellingslea, 55 years of age, passed away at the Orange county hospital on Sunday, March 20, following a short illness. He had been a resident of Anaheim for a couple of years and was employed at the shoe shine parlor at 108 North Los Angeles street. Born in Texas, he came to California in 1922 and to Orange county in 1921. He resided at 198% North Los Angeles street. Surviving are his wife, Mary Bellingslea of Long Beach who is reported to be in Oklahoma attending the funeral of his mother; one brother, James Bellingslea of Portland and a sister, Miss May Bellingslea of Oklahoma City. Funeral services will be announced at a later date by Backs, Campbell and Kaulbars mortuary. Services are pending awaiting word from relatives. Harold C. Berger Passes Suddenly Harold C. Berger, 51 years of age, passed away suddenly at his home at 13252 Orangewood avenue, Anaheim, last Sunday, March 20. Born in Indiana, he had lived near this city on the ranch property for the past 28 years. Surviving are his wife, Mayme R. Berger; his mother, Mrs. Alice D. Berger of Anaheim; a daughter, Mrs. Vivian Kelly of Anaheim; two sons, Don Berger of Anaheim and Charles Berger of Huntington Park; one brother, LICENSE TO WED A marriage license was obtained by Guillermo Gallardo Duan 9341 Katella road, Anaheim Ramona Perez Romero of Katella road, this city, late week at the county court in Santa Ana.
