Embark on Fish, Game Program; Biggest in History With authorization to expend $4,470,351 in conservation projects, the state division of fish and game was prepared today to embark on the greatest fish and game program in the history of the state. The funds, voted by the wildlife conservation board, provides for modernization of the fish hatchery system; acquisition and development of game management areas; development of fish screens and ladders; game farms, quail projects, waterfowl management areas, and other vital projects. Acting on the advice of Seth Gordon, consultant for the board, the division will eliminate eleven hatcheries and streamline others to produce nearly three times as many catchable trout as are produced now. The new game management areas are to be open to the public and are designed to keep hunters off farm lands and eliminate damage to crops. State-operated hatcheries which are to be eliminated are: Fall creek hatchery in Siskiyou county; Burney hatchery in Shasta county; Almanor hatchery in Lassen, Feather rider hatchery in Plumas, Yuba river hatchery in Sierra, Alpine hatchery in Alpine, Basin creek hatchery in Tuolumne, Brookdale in Santa Cruz county, Madera in Madera county, Kings river in Fresno county, and Kaweah in Tulare county.
