Dentists Engaged In County-Wide Health Program A member of the Dental Health Education committee of the Orange County Dental association will present the program at the Health Council of Orange county monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m., Monday evening, February 28, in the Little Theatre of the Santa Ana high school, 520 West Walnut street, Miss Thelma Patton, president of the Health Council announced. The twelve denists serving on this committee withhold the publication of their names at all times to avoid any semblance of advertising as they accept speaking engagements before groups to explain their plans for an educational program in Orange county. This volunteer service is a part of a national and statewide movement of the dental societies to prevent or control decay and dental needs of children, particularly, through an educational program in the schools of their respective communities. Control Tooth Decay Dentists are going into the schools of Orange county as rapidly as they can be covered. In one community of 200 children examined, 1500 cavities were found. It is hoped that when the present plans are completed, 87 per cent of the tooth decay will be controlled. The over-all program of the dental society includes: 1. Dental examination of school children by a dentist, 2. Restorative and reparative program with merit system of rewards for children, 3. Courses will be given in dental hygiene and nutrition to teachers for which principals may give institute credit, teachers' cooperation in this project being of utmost importance. Prevention Program Many interesting features will be employed to impress children regarding good dental health, such as clever records made by top-notch movie stars. "The purpose of this prevention program is to protect children's teeth, and to reduce the case load of dentists, for at present dentists can not cope with the rapid advance of dental decay," the chairman of the committee stated. This regular monthly meeting of the Health Council is attended by representatives of health and welfare agencies throughout the country but it is open to the public. A short business meeting will precede the program. Mrs. Hawley Willed Estate Mrs. Gertrude R. Hawley of 122 West Sycamore street, Anaheim, was willed the estate of Herbert A. Hawley of Anaheim who died January 20, when his will was offered for probate in superior court, Santa Ana; Monday. His widow, who will receive all his property, said the estate consists of personal property worth $2,700 and that joint-tenancy holdings amount to $14,000 in real estate and $7,630 in securities. JACK CHATTERSON WITH SEARCH PARTY Jack Stanley Chatterson, seaman apprentice, USN, son of Mrs. H. C. Chatterson of Anaheim, participated in the Atlantic search for the crew of a missing B-29 Superfortress while serving aboard the destroyer USS Ellison with the Northern European Task Force. The missing plane was lost on a flight from Dakar, South Africa to Marham, England, January 26. Units of the British and French fleets joined with the American Task Force, under command of Admiral Richard L. Conolly, in search for the aircraft.
