Junior Class to Present “June Mad” at High School, April 8
Rehearsals are now underway for “June Mad” the Anaheim High Junior Class play to be presented April 8 in the Anaheim High School auditorium.
Filling the leading roles are Janice Schamp as Penny, the Woods’ fifteen-year-old daughter, and Dan Demaree as Chuck Harris, the boy next door.
Also included in the cast are Jackie Whitman as Mrs. Wood, Penny’s mother; Joe Moody as Dr. Wood, Penny’s father; Betty Marshall as Julie Harris; Dale Fanning as Elmer Tuttle; Louise Spezia as Effie; Carol Bostick as Milly Lor; Dub Helsing as Melvin Roberts; Craig Bottger as Roger Van Vleck; Dudley Frank as Mr. Harris; Joan Bruce as Shirley Wentworth; and Kenneth Dymmel as Ralph Wentworth.
Understudies are Romona Selfridge, Mary Volz, Louis Middleton, Darleen Morris, Stanley Claussen, Pat Ketchum, June Hokanson, Roderick Hall, Jim Wright, Butch North, Joan Spencer, Jerry Henning and Jim Webb.
The entire production will be under the direction of Mrs. John Glasier of Anaheim High School Drama Department.

The orchestra is under the direction of Peter Meremblum guest director. The concert will be given at the El Lobero theatre in Santa Barbara next Monday night.
Donna Thomas and Elaine Newton of Anaheim High school were also accepted but will not be able to attend.
Four Anaheim students took part in the orchestra last year. They were Don Calloway, Priscilla Orman, Donna Thomas, and Elaine Newton.
18 Student Club To Participate In P-TA Carnival
Eighteen of Anaheim Union high school’s clubs are going to participate in the P-TA sponsored carnival open to both the public and students, to be held in the gym on March 4.
The carnival will go under the title of “The 49er” in honor of the class of '49.

Several women from this area including Mesdames Florence Stevens, Elmer S. Poirier and William Hazen of Santa Ana, attended the annual luncheon and board meeting of the National Association of Pro-America, Wednesday of last week at the Biltmore hotel, Los Angeles. Mrs. Morgan Padelford, national president, presided.
Speakers Randolph Van Nostrand and Charles McKnead were introduced to the large group by the Hon. Albert W. Hawkes, former United States senator from New Jersey. A discussion of our present system of economy entitled “This Is the Problem,” was given.

The carnival will go under the title of "The 49er" in honor of the class of '49.
The doors of the gym will open at 3:00 p.m., March 4, and will close at 12 p.m. At 6:00 p.m. the P-TA will serve dinner to the general public in the AUHS cafeteria.
The girl's gym will be turned into a '49er ball room at 8:00 p.m. and dancing will be in order for the full evening.

Carol Hohuli and Gerald Thatcher of Anaheim High school are to journey to Santa Barbara, Saturday to participate in the All Southern California Student Orchestra.

Endorse Sewer Bonds
Council endorsement to the sanitation bonds to be voted on Monday, February 28, was given with the city governing body urging all citizens of Anaheim to go to the polls and approve the proposed bond issue for sanitation district two.
The variance petition of Lynn Birdsall permitting him to excavate the surface sand from his property at North East and Loara streets was denied, sustaining the action of the civic planning commission.
Denied was the variance petition of Antonio and Catalina Diaz of 306 North Sabina street who requested permission to erect a neighborhood grocery store on their property. This followed the planning commission's recommendation.

A public hearing on the variance petition of Augustine Lenain, requesting permission to erect a duplex residence at 915 North Topeka street was called for March 8.
Held over for further consideration was the variance petition of Charles Fisher, owner and Arnold Howard, lessee, requesting permission to erect a garage at Lemon and Chartres streets. It had been recommended for approval by the planning commission.
The request of the planning commission for further considerawas sustained by the council.
Resolutions granting variances of Muriel Lenz permitting the construction of a drive-in restaurant and motel at Center and East streets and the construction of multiple dwelling housing were adopted by the council.
The council directed the city engineer to investigate costs of construction of two asphalt sidewalks on either side of East Center street from the Lincoln school to the Bonnat tract.
Action was taken after reading of a letter from the Anaheim elementary school board, citing the existing traffic hazard which exists due to lack of sidewalks for children living in the Bonnat tract who attend the Lincoln school.
