Anaheim 'Caps' Oiler Gusher With 42-40 Win; Play Final Home Game Friday; Five Colonists to Bow Out
Coach Sam Keith made a prediction at the beginning of the season that the team that won the crown would be defeated at least twice.
Tomorrow night, Friday, February 11, the local basketball team makes its final appearance on the home court in a tustle with Orange. Playing their last high school game on the Anaheim court will be Garth Menges, Dick Cramer, Gerald Thatcher, Bob Whipple and Cornell Gray. The Colonists close the season on February 18 at Downey.
Menges Again
It was Garth Menges, diminutive forward who once again sparked the locals to victory, scoring 14 points to cop high-scoring honors and share Sunset league scoring honors with Bob Yardley of Newport Harbor.
The Colonist's held a first quarter, 13-11 edge and then gave way to Huntington Beach, 23-20 at the half. It was closer than a cue ball's whisker at the end of the third stanza with the Oilers holding on to a 32-31 lead which the fighting local five overcame in the closing seconds of the game.
Flores Fights Willie Bean In Hollywood
Anaheim's promising young middleweight, Sal Flores, fresh from an impressive TKO win over Denis Moore, fights his third professional fight against Willie Bean of Phoenix. Arizona, tomorrow night, Friday, February 11, in the filmland arena.
In his fight last week at the Hollywood Legion stadium, Flores squared off but lost.
Aggies and Rotary Win City BB Ga

Aggies at one time in were holding on to a cute 19-1 lead but the Mercked in on Bootin' Ben's 26 with five minutes to second half.
That's all the closeness for the winners pulled away 38-32 with Roy More setting the pace, points for the evening.
Rotary Wins
Rotary notched their of the campaign, beating Beta, 37-30 in the other Wednesday. Vuksonovic the winners with 13 points.

Invite Fishermen To Fly-Tying Class
The local Izaak Walton league is sponsoring a fly-tying class—held every Monday evening at Aggie's Sporting Goods store on East Center street.
Although only three sessions have been held, the class already numbers fifteen. Professor Monte Webb is in charge of the instructing.
Latest report from Monie, direct from the number three chair at Hoppy's is that the number of fish to be caught next spring is in direct ratio to the number of fishermen that show up for the classes.
The prof also made it clear that the class is not limited to Ike's but is open to all (both sexes too).
In Hollywood,
Anaheim's promising young middleweight, Sal Flores, fresh from an impressive TKO win over Denis Moore, fights his third professional fight against Willie Bean of Phoenix. Arizona, tomorrow night, Friday, February 11, in the filmland arena.
In his fight last week at the Hollywood Legion stadium, Flores squared the record but good as he pounded out a decisive win over the rangy Denis Moore.
It was an undisputed win with Flores having a clear edge in each of the two rounds of the tussle and gaining the TKO when the house physician stopped the fight at the start of the third round due to a cut on Moore's ear.
Baron Doing OK
Baron Von Stumme appears to be dong alright in the "cold war" that's being raged in local boxing circles and has come up with another good card this week.
In the ten round, main event, Charlie Salas, fair-haired boy of the Legion galleryites takes on Willie Jenkins in a welterweight clash. Jenkins recently fought a draw with Jackie Wilson whom Salas wants to meet—if he can get by Willie.
The semi-final should be a corker with featherweights Jackie Blair and Luther Burgess going at each other for six rounds. Burgess dropped a close decision to Willie Pep in a ten round not so long ago.
Flores Third on Card
In the four round preliminaries the Baron has in addition to Flores who is fighting the number three fight has Jimmie McCann vs. Lawrence Brown, Earl Ward vs. Larry Day and George Abineyp vs. John Pearsey.
A mild heat wave created by last week's stellar card at the Legion brought the temperature on the "cold war" up a few degrees and if the Baron produces another rousing evening in tomorrow night's card he should just about bring about the long, over-due thaw.

Rotary Wins
Rotary notched their third win of the campaign, beating Alpha Beta, 37-30 in the other game Wednesday. Vuksonovich paced the winners with 13 points.
