ST. MICHAEL'S WILL GIVE CHRISTMAS EVE SERVICES
A family carol and candlelight service will be given at St. Michael's Episcopal church, East Adele at Emily street, Friday (tomorrow) afternoon followed by an 11 o'clock evening choral eucharist service and address by the church pastor, the Rev. John Kimball Saville.
Yuletide selections to be sung at the afternoon service will include "Sleep Holy Babe," "Gesu Bambino," "It Came Upon a Midnight Clear," "Hark the Herald Angels Sing," "Away in a Manager," "O Little Town of Bethlehem," "God Rest You Merry, Gentlemen," "Silent Night, Holy Night," "O Come All Ye Faithful" and "Lo, How a Rose E'er Blooming."
Mrs. Juanita Ross is choir director; Mrs. Robert Hardin, assistant choir director; Miss Hazel Erickson, organist; Mrs. Thomas Fisher, assistant organist; Ernest Zitzmann, violinist, and D. William Davis, Lay reader.
Carols and sacred Nativity songs to be sung at the evening service in addition to those mentioned above will include "He Shall Feed His Flock," "Arise, Shine, for Thy Light Is Come," "Joseph Dearest, Joseph Mine" with Mrs. Robert Hardin and Arthur Munroe singing solo parts, and "Adoramus Te."
Fellowship presented a play for the family dinner program at which time white gifts of food clothing and money were giver for Church World Service by church members and friends.
At the 10:50 o'clock morning service Sunday, the anthem "Glory to God" from "The Messiah" will be sung. Guest soloist George Peabody, will sing "Cantique de Noel" by Adams.
Free Methodist Speaker Named
J. C. Schroff of Anaheim will give an autobiographical resume of "My Conversion" at the Free Methodist church, West Broadway at Clementine, Sunday night at 7:30 o'clock, the Rev. George Harer, pastor, stated.

Music for the occasion will be provided by the double mixed choir and the Ladies trio with La Verne Harer as organist, the pastor disclosed. Miss Edith Gay is song leader.
Tuesday night the Christmas program was given by the church's church school youngsters under the direction of Mrs. George Harer, Miss Edith Gay and Mrs. Ellis Wedon. The high school group presented a drama entitled "Ye Shall see a Babe."
Special Music at Calvary Church
A highly contrasted Christmas program including special music will be presented by the Sunday school children of the Calvary Baptist church, Broadway at Citron street, tonight (Thursday) at 7:30 o'clock.
All departments will participate with songs and readings. Climaxing the program will be the appearance of Santa Claus with a pack full of treats for all the church youngsters.
The Youth choir will also present special numbers, the Rev. James F. Cowee, pastor, stated. Overall director for the presentation is Rudy Ulrich.
Christmas services last Sunday morning included a sermon entitled "Christ the King" given by the pastor.
Colored slides telling the story of "Jesus, Holy Child of Bethlehem" were featured during the evening service Sunday.
Nazarene Choir To be Featured
Special music will be presented by the First Church of the Nazarene choir next Sunday morning at 10:45 o'clock under the direction of LeRoy Ferguson, while the pastor, Rev. T. J. Crawford, will give a Christmas message.
At 7:30 o'clock that evening, the Youth in N.Y.P.S. will be in charge of a Yule program to feature Harold Bonner, formerly of Anaheim, now studying for the ministry at Pasadena college. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. H. A.
Foursquare Speaker Named
Guest preacher at the Anaheim Foursquare church, 1317 West Broadway, will be the Rev. E.N. Tingley, retired minister and member of the local church, Sunday morning at the regular morning worship service at 10:45 o'clock, the Rev. O. L. Underwood, pastor, disclosed.
Last Sunday evening the church presented a Yule program highlighted by readings, songs and recitations by the church school youngsters. Scenes depicting the Nativity in dramatic-narrative form were presented by the

Temple Choir to Sing the 'Messiah'
Symbolic beauty of the First Christmas will be portrayed when "The Messiah" by Handel is presented by the Temple choir of White Temple Methodist church, directed by George Burt, Sunday, December 26, at the church, East Broadway at Philadelphia.
Organist for the occasion will be Mrs. Joe A. Burk. The program will begin at 7:15 o'clock, the Rev. Rollo E. Dunham, pastor, stated.
Sunday morning at 10:50 o'clock, when the regular morning worship is held, the pastor will speak on the sermon topic, "And the Shepherds Returned."
Last Sunday the Youth Fellowship gave a musical interpretation, "The Brotherhood of Christmas." Wednesday night the Junior High Broadway, will be the Rev. E. N. Placentia Church Plans Program
A Christmas eve candlelight service will be given at 11 o'clock Friday evening in the Placentia Presbyterian church, corner of Center and Main streets, Placentia, Rev. Herbert Tweedie, pastor, disclosed.
The public is cordially invited to the program which will include selections sung by the choir under the direction of Mrs. Ruth White Miller. Organist is Emma Apalategui.
Soloists will be Ruth Wilson, Betty Heiber, Bill Suiter and Herbert Tweedie. The pastor will give with brief meditations upon the topics, "With the Angels" and "A Song to Remember."
CHRISTIAN SCIENCE BROADCAST
On Sunday, December 26, the Columbia Church of the Air will be broadcast under the auspices of the Christian Science Committee on Publication for Oregon. The subject of the address will be "So Close is God." The program will be released over Station KNX at 8:30 a.m., Pacific Daylight Saving Time.

EVANEGLICAL CHURCH PRESENTS SPECIAL CHRISTMAS PROGRAMS
In a combined program; the three church school groups of the Evangelical United Brethren church, Center and Helena streets, will stage a Christmas program tonight (Thursday) at 7 o'clock, with Mrs. Arthur Korn in charge.
Directed by Miss Mildred Mauerhan, songs and recitations will be given by the children's department.
The intermediate department, led by Walt Taylor, will present a dramatic narrative entitled "A the Well of the Star." Lead roles in the pageant will be portrayed by Doris Holve, Luanne Weitman, Lloyd Stockwell, Barbara Bircher and Ronald Korn. Mrs. Floyd Stockwell is director of the youth choir of more than 25 voices.
Last Sunday evening a special Christmas program was presented with the choir featured in impressive arrangements of traditional music under the direction of Mrs. Glenn Wendland. Organist Dorlyn Hochuli interpreted incidental music and accompanied the singers.
The Youth choir had Betty Mauerhan as xylophone soloist. Darwin Stockwell was bass soloist with the men's chorus. The ladies trio comprising Betty and Philura Stockwell and Margaret Peter sang a selection from Handel’s “The Messiah.”
'Cello and violin duets were interrupted by Caroline Hochelle.
St. Boniface Church to Observe Holy Season
On Friday, Dec. 24, the observance of the Vigil of Christmas will be held, which is a day of fast and abstinence. Masses for the day will begin at 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. and will be for the children only. Beginning at 3 p.m., masses will be held until 5 p.m. and again from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
On Christmas day, High Mass will be at 6:30 a.m. with St. Boniface Men's choir bringing the music. For the 8 a.m. Mass, music will be by the girls' choir of Marywood Central high school. The school children will present the Ara Coeli service during the 9 o'clock Mass with benediction of the Blessed Sacrament to be given after the Mass. Music for this

Miss Mauerhan was soprano soloist when the Youth choir and chorus sang several Christmas carols assisted by the congregation.
Last Sunday morning the Rev. Philip Selfridge, church pastor, spoke on "Good Tidings of Great Joy."
Special music for the morning service included Christmas carols sung by the Youth choir in addition to regular selections presented by the adult choir.
Choirs Present 'The Messiah'
Tableaux by tableaux of Handel's beautiful sacred oratorio, "The Messiah," unfolded before a near capacity audience last Sunday afternoon in the Anaheim Union high school auditorium, with a featured cast of more than 70 voices from the Chancel and Chapel choirs of the First Presbyterian church of this city.
The girls Crusader choir comprising junior high school students was directed by Arnold O. Lewerenz, minister of music at that church.
Susan Hilbers Talevich, church organist, was accompanist. Betty Stockwell, local piano teacher, served at the piano keyboard.
Soloists were young people from the Chancel choir of the church including Loretta Franzen, Bernice Tompkins Nelson and Jeanne Gulson Stull, sopranos; Phyllis Hinman, contralto; Chad Boliek, tenor; William Talevich, baritone, and Gene Peebles, bass.
Christmas eve at 8 o'clock the story of the Nativity will be portrayed musically as several groups of young people carol throughout the city. They will make several only. Beginning at 3 p.m. masses will be held until 5 p.m. and again from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
On Christmas day, High Mass will be at 6:30 a.m. with St. Boniface Men's choir bringing the music. For the 8 a.m. Mass, music will be by the girls' choir of Marywood Central high school. The Mexican girls choir will sing for the 10 o'clock Mass and during the 11 o'clock Mass, members of Marywood girls choir will again present the music. St. Boniface Men's choir will again sing at the 12 o'clock Mass, concluding the services for the day.
There will be no midnight mass in any parish church of the local Archdiocese.
Further announcement has been made that on New Year's day Masses will be the same as on Sundays beginning at 7:00 and at 8:30; 10:00; 11:00 and 12 o'clock noon.
Bethany Church Youth Service
A youth program will be given at the Bethany Pentecostal church, 121 West Cypress, tonight (Thursday) at 7:45 o'clock, the Rev. John F. Moll, pastor, stated.
Every church family is extended a cordial invitation to the presentation. Treats will be given the children at the close of the service, he added.
Last Sunday Oscar Stern, refugee from Czechoslovakia spoke at the church. The speaker was officially endorsed by Dr. Edward Benes, president of that country, and by the American Council of Churches in Louisville, Kentucky; Evansville, Indiana; Rochester, New York, and by universities, colleges, many churches of various denominations in this country and great Britain.
Many actual experiences and interpretations of current trends in his country were told by Stern, who, as a Christian Jew, spent seven months in a Nazi dungeon.
Zion Lutheran Yule Programs

Soloists were young people from the Chancel choir of the church including Loretta Franzen, Bernice Tompkins Nelson and Jeanne Gulson Stull, sopranos; Phyllis Hinman, contralto; Chad Boliek, tenor; William Talevich, baritone, and Gene Peebles, bass.
Christmas eve at 8 o'clock the story of the Nativity will be portrayed musically as several groups of young people carol throughout the city. They will make several calls at the homes of members and friends of the church who are unable to attend beautiful services this week.
At the conclusion of the Christmas carol singing, the vocalists will gather at the home of Rev. and Mrs. Congdon for refreshments.
At 11 o'clock Christmas eve, a midnight candlelight service combining carols and communion will be conducted in the sanctuary of the church.
No services will be held on Christmas day.
Sunday, December 26, during the morning worship service the choirs again will present several Christmas carols and anthems. The pastor's sermon will be on the theme of the Christian's great affirmation of faith and hope, "My Christ."
That evening, the young people of the church will give an informal service of carols. The popular recording of Charles Dickens' "The Christmas Carol," as interpreted by the English actor and screen star, Basil Rathbone, will be featured.

Zion Lutheran Yule Programs
Christmas eve services tomorrow (Friday) night at 7 o'clock in the Zion Lutheran church will be the traditional children's service when the Sunday school pupils tell the Christmas story in song and verse.
Walter Knigge, superintendent, will direct the youngsters and the choir will sing "For Unto Us Is Born a Savior" from Handel's "Messiah" oratorio. The choir will also participate in an impressive ceremony when the huge tree in the church is lighted and all church lights dimmed for the singing of "Silent Night." Carols will be sung while all the children present receive gifts after the services.
On Christmas morning at 10 o'clock, a festival service will be held in the church with Rev. L. E. Eifert's sermon to be entitled "Unto You Is Born a Savior." The choir will be directed by Mrs. Walter Kempin and will sing Dickenson's anthem, "The Shepherd's Song."
Sunday, December 26, will see a guest pastor in the pulpit when the Rev. O. M. Burkhardt of Lynwood will speak on "Jesus, the Heart of the Christmas Story." The choir will complete a series of anthems from "The Messiah" by singing the famous "Hallelujah Chorus." Sunday's morning services will be at the usual hour of 11 o'clock.
