Motor Cops at Last Catch Up With Their Job An order to highway patrolmen to stop all automobiles which do not have 1948 licenses may be expected at the end of this week, according to A. H. "Gus" Henderson, director of motor vehicles. Henderson said he would confer this week with Clifford E. Peterson, state highway patrol commissioner, and advise Peterson that the department's work on 1948 automobile licenses is current. Such an order, however, would not affect trucks, trailers, and motorcycles, on which a small back-log still exists, Henderson said. The motor vehicle director's statement marks the end of a 10-month period of reconversion in the department, a period which saw motorist throughout the state in hundreds of instances fail to comply with the law. (NOTARIAL SEAL) County Property Value Up 10% since 1941-42 Assessed value of taxable property in Orange county more than doubled in value in 1948-49 over the 1941-42 fiscal year, according to figures assembled by the California Taxpayers' association. The increase in this county was 110 percent. But one county in the state scored a greater increase in the same period; San Joaquin County increased an increase of 113 per cent. In the state as a whole the increase in the same period was per cent. Of the total value of property in the county of $404,471,800, there is a total of $27,069,630 in exemptions. Exemptions in the state decreased during the year from $4,151,609 to $500,316,354, almost 21 per cent. Most of this increase resulted from larger number of veterans' exemptions. They increased 19 per cent in number and 25½ per cent in value and were only $202 short of the constitutional maximum of $500.
