CYPRESS NEWS Mr. and Mrs. Dick Bakker of the Bakker Dairy returned from a wedding anniversary celebration-vacation trip through Nevada and northern California the past week. Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Hastings and son, Jeffery, made a surprise visit over the week end at the H. H. Hastings' home in Anaheim and the Lyen home in Cypress. Herb and his mother took in the football game between the Berkeley Bears and the USC Trojans at the Coliseum Saturday afternoon, while Mrs. Hastings visited her mother in Cypress. It was hard to tell over which Herb was the most excited—the winning of the Berkeley team or his meeting and shaking hands with Governor Warren after the game. Sunday Mrs. Hastings, Jeffery, Mrs. Lyen and son, Lynn drove into Los Angeles where they spent the day with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Mathes. The Hastings left Monday noon for their home in Berkeley. They made the trip in their new Buick purchased just two weeks ago. Rollin Miles, who was injured two weeks ago while assisting the seventh and eighth graders of the Cypress school at the Teen Canteen in Anaheim, is reported home from the Long Beach Community hospital where he was taken a few days after the accident, when his injury became serious. He made a misstep and fell, crushing his elbow and injuring his wrist. He is now making a satisfactory recovery at his home in Cypress. Mr. Miles is the bus driver for the Cypress school. Miss Helen Harvey, of Ontario, sister of Carl Harvey, spent the week end visiting the Harveys and the Cormiers at the Hancock Station and Jill's Baby Shop, west of town. Grow larger.oranges. Get back in the swim with successful growers Through the courtesy of the California Fruit Growers Exchange we have secured the auction prices of Sunkist oranges for the period from May 10, 1948, through August 31, 1948. The average price per box is as follows: 176's—$7.08 200's—6.65 220's—5.88 252's—5.01 288's—4.43 344's—3.94 Mr. Citrus Grower, do you know what this increased price for larger sizes can actually mean to you: Let us take 288,000 oranges. When packed and sold on auction, these oranges would fill Not only do larger sizes bring more money per box, but the same number of oranges will fill more boxes. This increase in the number of boxes and prices per box should be your goal. Nitrohumus helps you achieve this goal. More and more packing houses are recommending the use of Nitrohumus to their growers because they can see the difference in the Nitrohumus grown oranges—in better production, better quality, as well as larger sizes. Nitrohumus is a soil builder and gives Nature a chance to arrange a balanced diet for plant life. Its outstanding results are achieved because it builds up the soil by adding natural organic fertilizer and by feeding the life of the soil which is the feeding agent for the plant. A baby daughter was born to Hearing On New Land Use Rules Set For Nov. 17 A final hearing will be held by the county board of supervisors at 10 a.m. November 17 on proposed amendments to the county's land use ordinance which is designed to improve land use administration by zoning unincorporated areas of the county. Amendments are so drawn that proceedings requiring land use permits would be largely eliminated and the public would be saved $4000 or more a year. The new amendment provides for four zones or districts to cover the present unclassified area, M-3 district, which comprises 99 percent of the county's unincorporated area. The new districts would be designed respectively as "general agricultural," "suburban residential," "general business" and "light industrial." This would follow the general plan of land use adopted June 17, 1947, by the board of supervisors as part of the master zoning plan, as recommended by the county planning commission. The new ordinance would amend the original land classification and districting ordinance, No. 351, and would repeal the interim ordinance, No. 477, under which the county has administered land use for the last three years. Under the interim ordinance, with the entire unincorporated area unclassified as M-3 district, (excepting the detailed zoning plans adopted for South Laguna and Emerald Bay), it is necessary to obtain a land use permit for any new enterprise, the fee for such permit being $10. CHRISTIAN SCIENCE "Adam and Fallen Man" will be the Sunday Lesson-Sermon subject in all branches of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston. The Golden Text is from Genesis; "There went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground." And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul." The Lesson-Sermon includes this Scriptural selection also from Genesis; "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.... And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.... And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good.... Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them." On this subject Mary Baker Eddy says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures;" "Popular theology takes up the history of man as if he began materially right, but immediately fell into mental sin; whereas revealed religion proclaims the Science of Mind and its formations as being WESLEY METHODIST 632 North Los Angeles street Rev.
