Children's Shoes 4.49 PAY CASH--CARRY IT--YOU SAV AT PENNEY'S Citrus Displays Vie for Honors Working four days building a citrus display paid off in a lot of satisfaction not to mention the beauty of the finished work when the final judging for citrus displays of various types shown in the Orange County Fair were announced. The Mutual Orange Distributors climaxed their four days of hard work when their display of Valencia oranges fashioned into a pumpkin in keeping with the Hallowe'en session was awarded the first prize of $100 for the most artistic. Another first prize went to their display of lemons fashioned into a scarecrow pattern with all the weird effects of the season used. For this masterpiece they were awarded $100. Max Royer, field department of M.O.D., assisted George Wood, also of the field department of that firm, in working out the displays. Also assisting the four days were Mrs. Arthur Chandler and Mrs. George Wood who did the decorating work. Additional prizes were as follows: for quality lemons the first prize of $40 went to the Orange Cooperative Citrus Association in Orange; second prize of $30 was won by the Garden Grove Cooperative Association. For quality lemons, the first prize of $40 was won by the Index Mutual Citrus Association in La Habra, this award being for the display of Lisbon lemons; Eureka lemons, first prize of $40 went to the La Habra firm. The Index Mutual Citrus also won the two first prizes of $10 each for their showings of Lisbon and Eureka lemons, packed boxes. In the packed Valencia division, first prize of $10 was won by Anaheim Cooperative Orange Association and second prize of $6 went to the Orange Cooperative Citrus Association. The Index Mutual Citrus again came into the prize money when they won first and second prizes of $5 and $3 for their plate displays of Eureka and Lisbon lemons. Roy Mabee turned in score in classes A and B for the dry fly accuracy with a score of 99 and the % ounce with a score of 94. He also honors in the fisherman's cast. Elmo Finch, Class A-B, wet fly competition with a score of 99. The % ounce accuracy score was made by Sam who chalked up 83. Clink Flynn, Class A-A the Skish championship with a score of 62. In class C, Bob William the % ounce accuracy score of 91 and the % ounce accuracy with a score of 77 Held, Class C, won the skip petition with a score of 95 was the high score man team event with a score in the % ounce division. Bob Hoskins swept the class in % ounce accuracy, chalking up a 91, and honors in skish casting score of 42. Roy Mabee turned in a high score in classes A and B winning the dry fly accuracy with a score of 99 and the ½ ounce accuracy with a score of 94. He also took honors in the fisherman's distance cast. Elmo Finch, Class A-B, won the wet fly competition with a score of 99. The ½ ounce accuracy top score was made by Sam Whippo who chalked up 83. Clink Flynn, Class A-B, won the Skish championship plaque with a score of 62. In class C, Bob Williams won the ½ ounce accuracy with a score of 91 and the ½ ounce accuracy with a score of 77. Wayne Held, Class C, won the skish competition with a score of 58. He was the high score man in the team event with a score of 96 on the ½ ounce division. Bob Hoskins swept the junior class in ½ ounce accuracy casting, chalking up a 91, and took honors in skish casting with a score of 42. Casters were in competition with clubs in all ten western states in the season's first main tournament sponsored by the Western Association of Angling and Casting clubs, it was announced. Standard equipment was used in the fisherman's distance cast. The bait accuracy and all-accuracy plaques were donated for the occasion by Bob Williams. In the ½ ounce accuracy plug cast, class A-B, Sam Whippo took first, 83; Clint Flynn and Roy Mabee, tied for second with a score of 82. In class C, ½ ounce accuracy Bob Williams won first, 77; Lowell Gamble, second, 75; and Nick Wingert, third, 73. In the fisherman's distance Roy Mabee was first, Elmo Finch, second, and Lowell Gamble, third. The five-man ½ ounce accuracy teams headed by Sam Whippo and Charlie Evans proved evenly matched. They ended with a tie of 433 points each. Class A-B skish saw Clint Flynn winning with a score of 62; Sam Whippo, second, 58; and Spence Allcock, 65. Class C winner was Wayne Held, 58; Jim Rymer, 38; and Arch Henry and Bob Williams, 30 (tie). In junior skish casting Bob Hoskins scored 42; Dick Hoskins, 32; and Kathleen Henry, Jimmy Wingert and Larry Newland tied with scores of 6 each. LICENSE TO WED Frank E. Van Casteren of Anaheim and Ethelyn Geraldine Beatty of Buena Park obtained a marriage license at the county court house in Santa Ana this week.
